received a $514 second payment.
"Having the oxen is the best gift I can proudly mention so far. As a farmer, I have been yearning to have them but I could not afford. I am so grateful for the financial support I received from GiveDirectly. I will benefit in many ways from the oxen. First, in my farming activities. They will be of great help because they take little time to plough an acre compared to when I do the exercise myself. This will result in some good harvests. Secondly, the oxen will help me especially in fetching water. The dams are very far from the village it takes hours to travel to the dam sites. This will be a great relief to me."

"I expect my life will have improved because my son who will be preparing for his final exam. I will have supported him well and I think he will be ready. I also expect to have a maize crop on my farm and hopefully, it will be doing well; unlike the last crop that failed. The hope that I will be having food in my family is the one thing that I cling to and know that my life will be better in the six coming months because I have the transfers to buy the inputs and do the necessary farm operations to enable me to produce food for my family."

"Keeping the goats in my compound has made my life to be totally different. With the goats, they are easier and cheaper to manage compared to other domestic animals. To add on that, they have multiple uses such as milk production, manure and many more. My plan is when they reproduce and mature I will exchange some for a dairy cow so that I can get plenty of milk and to double my income. And according to me, these are the good assets that will help me in the near future. I will be able to meet my family's basic needs with ease. Thank you God for bringing GiveDirectly in my village."

"In the next six months, I would like to have bought more chicken and constructed a perimeter fence around my poultry house. This will enable me to protect my chicken from predators. Jackline
received a $514 second payment.
"Owning the pair of oxen has made my life to be more different so far. I am so sure they help me in my farming activities because I currently do not have a farm I normally lease. I always hire the pair of oxen from my neighbours and sometimes do the tilling by myself when I fail to afford the fee. But with the air of oxen that I have, I will be able to plough at ease and to add on that I will be hiring t to my neighbors at a fee. This will be my major source of income since in my village there are few people who own the ox hence the demand is high."

"My expectation in the next six months is to have a permanent strategic plan for my unemployment. I want to start planting bananas and trees. I will be selling the seedlings to earn a living as I wait for the selected few mature ones. I want to start selling timber in the next few years. I also want to also start a poultry farm for my wife. She has an interest in poultry keeping. I know that with these activities, our living standards will improve for good."
