Jumwa
received a $530 initial payment.
"The house that we have been living in for too long was in bad condition. I did not have enough money that could enable me to build a new house or renovate the one that we were staying in. On receiving this transfer, I bought enough materials for the rebuilding of this house. I purchased Iron sheets and poles timber and nails. The materials were enough that apart from renovating it, I managed to build a new kitchen for my household. To me, this is the biggest difference in my daily life."

received a $530 initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily life is that through GiveDirectly's money, I was able to buy more cows to add to my cowshed. This is a boost to me economically because I will be able to produce more milk to sell and earn extra cash. Also, having the livestock is a source of wealth for they are assets which I can readily rely on in case of any financial challenge, as they reproduce and increase in number."

"Financial empowerment and independence is something i have always yearned for in order to support my spouse who is a mason in providing for the family. I have always wished to initiate poultry farming since i know it is a great income generating project upon selling poultry products but i haven't been able to realise this dream due to lack of capital, which is the greatest challenge i face"

"I intend to buy one dairy cow which will in turn produce milk for sale and for family consumption. I usually buy two litres of milk at ksh 54 per day hence buying a cow of my own will help me invest the money i usually spend in buying milk in savings. The remaining part of my transfer will go to buying 5 goats which is an investment plan now that i will be able to sell them in future to educate my children who are still in primary school"

Beatrice
received a $22 eighteenth payment.
"Currently, I do not have livestock but I have always considered them to be important because they usually come in handy in times of emergencies. I have plans to save some of the coming transfers and use it to purchase sheep for rearing. Therefore, in the next six months, I expect to have bought two sheep. I know they will multiply within a very short time and increase in number"

"Financial instability is the biggest hardship that I face. Ever since I started being sickly,I cannot perform heavy duty tasks and as such,we only rely on my husband's meager income for upkeep.Farming that used to balance the scale has also been affected by the recurrent droughts and so the little that we get is not always enough to divide between paying for school fees and buying food let alone cater for other emergencies. I feel so bad when my children are forced to go to bed hungry simply because I lack the means to provide for them their needs."

received a $22 eighteenth payment.
"I recently moved from my parents home and constructed my home. Even though the house is not yet complete I feel I have made several steps compared to when I was still staying in my parents home. The walls and floor haven't been plastered. I'm therefore planning to use the coming transfers to plaster the house. In the next six months, I expect to have plastered the house fully and moved into the new house."

"I expect to save and set up a business to help in generating income for my family. With the business, I can be able to get money to pay school fees for my other siblings and even get the chance to lift the burden of daily provision form my mother's shoulders. I shall have a way of significantly changing the lives of my family members."

Kalume
received a $530 initial payment.
"My life has completely changed after renovating the house. Previously my house was in a very bad state, it was almost falling because of the cracks of the walls and the broken building poles that barely supported the entire building. It was a difficult condition for my family and we suffered a lot because of this especially in the winter seasons. My children had contracted pneumonia due to the cold nights. This used to stress me as their parents because we were most of the time in and out of the hospital. I felt they were suffering because of me. All these problems came to an end when Give Directly came into our lives. We are now comfortably sleeping in a better house. I don't think we would have made all these changes without the support we got from Give Directly"

"It was around 7 am when I heard a loud vibration from my mobile phone. I decided to check what the message was all about, then realized it was an mpesa message from GiveDirecttly. I was very happy and grateful. There are no words to express how happy I was at that moment. I was so sure I will achieve a lot from financial support. May God continue blessing this company so that they continue helping other people in other areas."
