"Clearing my children's school fees is the biggest difference in my daily life. Seeing them waking up and rush to catch their lessons without missing any makes me so happy as a parent. My spouse is aged and jobless, this leaves me as the sole breadwinner of the family, but with my small business, paying school fees was important but I could not consistently do not it and only considered buying food as the most needed. This kept my children out of school. I paid school fees to enable my children to be literate and not illiterate like me. I feel so happy now seeing them rush for this gold called Education without hiccups."

"My life is different since I started to received GiveDirectly's transfers in that I have built a spacious house that fits my family's comfortably. We used to live in a small mud house which could not host all my family members comfortably. My children had to spend their nights at my neighbor's and this made me worry of their safety because of the movements at night which posed a lot of security challenges on their side. Currently, with this spacious house they have their own room where they study and do their assignment without any disturbances. On the other hand, I no longer worry too much about how to get money and buy milk on a daily basis since I own a dairy cow. I am glad because GiveDirectly has enabled me to achieve this. Today, my children have their breakfast with milk tea unlike before when sometimes I couldn't afford to buy them milk."

Filgona
received a $22 nineteenth payment.
"I don't expect any change in the next four months, because I am still paying school fees. Once my daughter finishes school I will be relieved because I can now buy my personal items and start doing other personal projects too. I have hope, soon I'll start buying clothes because the ones I have now are old. I will have to persevere until my daughter finishes school. However bad, I want to live a good life, my daughter's education comes first. I do not want her to be sent home due to fee arrears."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I now sleep in my own house which I constructed from the financial support I received from GD. This is the biggest gift I can proudly talk of so far. Before the coming of GiveDireclty in my village, I used to sleep in my brother-in-law's house. It was hectic because I did not have any privacy. My children could sleep at their grandmother's house which was very small and could not accommodate all of them. No space for them to do their homework too and I also wished to see them fall asleep but could not as we had to spend in separate houses. I am a happy soul now. I can see my children go to bed, cover them to sleep and even guide them when they do their homework in our new spacious house. I have also earned my privacy, no more sharing rooms."

"I remember that morning, I heard my neighbors saying they had received money from Give Directly. I decided to check on my phone also and asked my helper to check my Mpesa balance since I have not learnt how to manoeuvre through these modern gadgets. As she read out the message to me, everything came to a standstill as I could not contain the joy that filled my heart. I still thank GiveDirectly to date for the financial help. My life has completely changed as a result of their help"

"The message came around 3 am in the morning, I could not read the message and I had to wait patiently for daybreak. I later called my helper whom I showed the message. I was filled with joy after realizing that it was from Give Directly and that they had sent me the first transfers. I was greatly filled with happiness because I have never held such an amount of money before. I knew my life will definitely not be the same again. It is from this point that I started planning and thinking of ways I could invest the transfers."

David
received a $528 initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I am always happy and at peace. The fact that Give Directly came into our lives and empowered almost everyone in our home has relieved us from most of the family's burden. My son had completed college and our main aim was to ensure he becomes independent after school. After training, however, he could not secure a job for a long time. When I received this transfer, I started spare parts shop and garage dealing with a variety of automotive such vehicles and motorcycles and employed him to run it, so that he can be earning some cash and not depend on us on everything."

Millicent
received a $44 seventh payment.
"I expect my life to change in the next six months because I will have started another business.
I am planning to start a second-hand cloth business majorly for children's, this is to enable me to have an additional source of income to help me in supporting my family efficiently.
I have a family to look after and children to pay their fees, therefore, having an additional source of income will enable me to cater for their needs on time. I also would be in a position to pay their fees school in time to avoid issues of them being sent home for fees balance."

"Being a housewife I am forced to depend on my husband who is a teacher. His earning is rarely enough to accommodate the needs of our family. In spite of my first child having completed secondary school, she has never joined college, something that has eaten my joy and consequently, giving me sleepless nights. Therefore, financial instability has always been my hardship."
