"Ever since I had always wished to continue with my education without any hindrance. I am pursuing a course in civil engineering and I had already completed my module one course. To upgrade to module two, I first had to complete my module one school fees. I can testify that GiveDirectly came into my life at the right time since had it not have been for the transfer, I would not have been able to clear my fee arrears. I am now glad since I will be starting my module two classes very soon."

"My expectation in the near future is to start a boutique business. I am currently running second-hand clothes selling business in open markets. This comes with its own share of challenges such as heavy rain and scorching sun. Now that I have learned the art of this business, I would love to have one successful boutique. The return from this investment will enable me take better care of my family and meet all the daily needs. Having a stable business will help me grow financially and lead to an improved lifestyle."

"I have no formal job thus I engage in mixed farming to be able to sustain my family. I have been a poultry farmer for long and I have loved this farming because of its daily eggs production. I have been able to sell eggs to get money to meet other household needs and petty emergencies that arise in day to day life. Even though the risk of predators was a challenge, the biggest challenge I had with poultry farming was the frequent cause of conflicts in my neighbors since they could crossover and destroy their crops. It had always been my wish to keep them in a better structure for easy control but this was not possible to be due to limited resources. The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have been able to achieve my dream of building a better structure to keep my poultry. I am happy that I have peace of mind, live in harmony with my neighbors, and my chickens are safe from predators. I also have easy control of my chickens thus none still complains that my chickens have destroyed their crops in their farms."

Paul
received a $512 second payment.
"My life is different than it would have been if I never received this transfers in that I have been able to start a poultry keeping project. This has enabled me to live a stress-free life because I can easily meet our daily needs without much struggle as I make 300 KES per day from selling eggs. Before, I used to rely on masonry works which would fluctuate and I had to stay two to three weeks with work. This was frustrating since I left alot of the household responsibility for my wife. Now, I am able to support my spouse in meeting our daily needs. We have divided some of our household expenses, for instance, I use my income on paying school fees for our children."

I still don't plan to start any project, I want to continue saving any little amount that gets from the casual jobs and the monthly income I get from Give Directly. Once I am done with my research I will then weigh my options and chose the most appropriate and suitable business."
