"I started selling foodstuffs within the village 2 years ago but this work has not stabilized due to inadequate capital. I have long wished to have a special store where I can sell more stuff but this hope remains a deadly dream. When I heard about GiveDirectly, my desire got renewed knowing that I am going to use utmost $300 as capital for the retail business. This will be my reliable source of income to supplement the income from my husband. I will also use $300 to buy goats that will act as my long term investment that I can use to educate my children when they are through with primary education. The remaining amount will sustain our current basic needs like food, beddings and school fees."

"In the next six months, my expectation is to have purchased a heifer. With the current plans underway, I am much hopeful that everything will go as planned. We have started a savings plan which will enable us to raise some money which together with the contribution we are getting from the merry-go-round we will be able to purchase that heifer."

"I have been a subsistence farmer for a long time but due to old age which is catching up I want to do more of dairy and poultry farming because it is less strenuous. I have a plan of using the transfers from Give Directly to buy one dairy cow.I have two cows so far and adding one will increase milk yield. The cow will cost me approximately Ksh 25,000(250 USD).I will then fence my compound using a chain link so that I can do serious poultry.I want to double the number of chicken from 10 to 20.The poultry work will cost me around Ksh 10,000(100 USD).I have also been building my house and it is halfway done.I will see to it that I complete the remaining bit of it.I will not forget to take a share of the money to church to help God's work. This is a way of giving thanks to the Lord."

"Receiving this money means to build iron-roofed house and buy apiece of land. Iam settled in a small plot but have no where to cultivate hence I experience some poverty each year. Once I buy land ,I will be farming on it to realise some produce. This produce I will be selling and consuming some hence reduction in household poverty levels."

"Receiving this money means that I will be able to build iron-roofed house for better accomadation. Iam currently spending too much money on routine maintaince of a grass thatched house since it easily gets spoilt. I have thefore failled to give my children better Education since it's impossible to save money visa visa house maintenance. Once I build a iron-roofed house , the costs of it's maintance will be low and not regular. I will therefore manage to save some money for Educating my children."

"Receiving this money means that I will be in position to buy land. I currently own one garden for both homestead and crop farming. This is not productive atall, so I realise very little harvests which does not support the needs of my family members. Once I buy more land , my family will be cultivating crops hence increase in production. These produce I will be selling some for educating my Children in future."

"My daily life is currently different from how it was before since we are no longer being rained on during the rainy season. This is because I have been able to build a decent and spacious house for my family. This would not have been possible had it not have been for GiveDirectly because the money I usually get from doing some menial jobs was not even enough to buy food and other necessities. I now feel at peace and feel like I am at the same level as other people in our village because of the decent house I now live in. Also, owning goats is a source of financial assurance for me because I can easily sell any in case of a financial crisis."
