"This money will help my family to build iron-roofed house. We are suffering alot sleeping in aleaking house with too much coldness. My family members will definitely thereafter start sleeping in better accommodation without coldness once I complete building iron-roofed house."

"In a drought stricken area where subsistence farming is my main source of livelihood, it is quite difficult to provide for my family. To supplement this, I run a small hotel business in my village. However, it does not produce enough. To scale up farming is my biggest dream because I would like to curb food insecurity in my family. I will therefore purchase a pair of oxen to awaken my dream to reality. Besides, I will hire them at fee thus generating income to cater for other needs like clothing, medical and school fees."

"After completing high school, I decided to join college to take a course in catering so that I can later have a stable source of income. I chose this course because it was not so costly and it only took a couple of years to complete which is favourable for my pocket. I do not earn much from the part-time jobs I usually engage in after school to take care of my needs, therefore, I fully depend on these transfers for college fees and personal need. This is why I cannot afford to have any other plans at the moment."

"It was a few minutes to 6 am when I heard a message alert on my phone. Since I was awake, I decided to check to know its contents. I felt so happy upon realizing that it was a confirmation message that I had received money from GiveDirectly. I knew that I would be able to boost my life using this money."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have been able to build a decent and spacious house for my family using my transfer. This had always been a dream that I had not been able to achieve. I would always use the money I earn after doing some casual work around the village to cater for my family needs. Even though I have not started living in this house, I am glad since we will soon be living comfortably and enjoying our privacy all the time. Also, my children will be having a place to study in and do their assignments in the evening after school."

"In the next six months, I will have harvested potatoes that I have already started planting. I am expecting a bumper harvest because I have used the necessary farm inputs. The income which I would generate from this would enable me to cater to my family needs. I am also planning to buy livestock with part of the money I will get from the sale of potatoes."

"The biggest difference in my daily is that I have bought a dairy. I used to buy milk and it was so costly for me. I depend on casual jobs in the village and small scale farming to earn an income to meet all the daily needs of my family. I was not in a position to save some money to buy a cow because of the recurrent needs. At times when there were no casual jobs, we had to go without milk and breakfast and this was so demoralizing. I used to go for casuals jobs from the morning to evening, this was not giving me a chance to bond well with my family. Currently, I have a dairy cow. I have enough milk for my family and I sell the surplus to earn an income to meet other basic needs and also pay part of the school fees for my children. I no longer do much of the casual jobs but rather devote half of my time doing dairy farming at home. I am so happy because GiveDirectly had changed our standard of living."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have bought a water tank. I used to walk for a long distance to fetch water for domestic use. This was taking much of my time which I could have used on my farm. I could also take my livestock to drink water from the river which was also very far, this was affecting the milk production because the livestock could get tired and spent the rest of the day resting. At times my children would help me fetch the water and I was so happy but this was only during the holidays. Currently, I have bought a five thousand liters water tank. I am so happy because I no longer have to walk for a long distance to look for water both for domestic used and for my livestock at times because I have enough stored in the tank. I have devoted much of my time on my daily chores at home. My children also do not have to walk for a long distance for water but rather spent their time to do school assignments. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has changed our living standard."

"Currently, I can proudly say that I am progressing in life. Even though I was not able to achieve my first goal of establishing greenhouse farming, I am glad that I am almost achieving my second goal of owning a poultry keeping project. Being able to build a spacious modernized poultry house is a big milestone in achieving my dreams. I will be saving the income from this project and later use it to start greenhouse farming after saving enough."

"Six months to come, I expect to have bought a cow since this is the next goal that I am planning to accomplish. It is from this cow that my financial gains will have improved because the money that would have been used in buying milk will be channeled to something else."
