"I expect my life in the next six months to have greatly changed. I expect to have invested more in farming thus will engage more in my farm than on hard and low paying casual jobs I currently do. I expect to have bought another cow thus will be hopeful of having a better milk production which translates to enough food in our family and surpluses to sell to meet other needs."

"My husband and I never went to school and this has negatively impacted our life. There is no way we can get quality jobs and the much we can offer is casual labour. It is hard to earn enough from these jobs thus making it difficult to take care of our children. The most hurtful thing is that I cannot even raise 1400 shillings for their academics. I believe all this suffering is as a result of illiteracy which I consider my biggest hardship."

"Providing for my family is quite a challenge. This is as a result of not having a reliable source of income since I depend on charcoal burning. This earns me less than 1000 shillings a month, an amount that is supposed to cater for 6 children. In an ideal scenario is it possible to operate on such a budget? Therefore I have to overlook other needs to meet the most sensitive ones. In regard to this we don't even have beddings and we use the traditional bed that is made of sisal reeds. My children have never slept on a mattress ever since they were born. All these struggles are attributed to financial insufficiency which is my biggest hardship."

"I was extremely happy. I thought to myself that I would finally buy a dairy cow. It is very difficult to run a family when one does not have a source of milk because it is a daily utility. Buying it is also very expansive. Most of my neighbors earn a living through milk production which was one more reason that fueled my desire to own one too."

"My life is different than it would have been if I never received the transfer in that I paid school fees for my children on time and they were not sent home. This could have been so challenging for me because I depend on small scale farming at home to earn an income."

Since GD came in the picture I have been trying to use my transfers to assist as much as I can to ease the burden she carries."

"Having a better house, made of a timber wall is my greatest improvement. I made sure that this chance did not sleep through my hands. I quickly moved to put up the house and demolishing the small mudwalled hut. When I look at the house, I am so proud and happy that my compound is among the good looking in the village."
