"My children were constantly sent home due to the huge fee arrears that was outstanding. I am thankful to GiveDirectly because I managed to clear their school fees on time and they were allowed to continue with their studies. I am also boasting of owning livestock which includes goats, a heifer and a bull that I am currently keeping in my homestead. I am expecting the heifer and the goats to reproduce and have many of them. I will be getting milk from the heifer. The bull is helping me in ploughing my farm."

"I have been struggling to raise money to build a house to live with my family. I was however not successful since my main source of income, that is, charcoal burning wasn't enough to build a new house. My life is currently different because after receiving the financial support from GiveDirectly, I purchased enough building materials and built a decent house. I also bought some livestock which includes a pair of oxen and seven goats. I am expecting the goats to reproduce and have many of them as my own assets. As for the pair of oxen, it will help me to plough my farm on time."

"Currently, I got enough space to carry out farming. I do depend on farming to take my children to school and meet my daily needs. The main challenge which I had was limited space, but now things are so different. Since I acquired a new piece of land, I fenced around my homestead with a chain-link wire and practice poultry farming. The other portion, I am using the other portion to rear dairy cows."

"Before the coming of GiveDirectly, I did not have a good house to stay with my family. The one that used to be home was in a bad condition and I couldn't afford to just renovate it. I am happy since I have built a decent iron-roofed house through the transfer. My life is different because I can now access to a good shelter. I also cleared my child school fees and it's my joy now that his studies are no longer interrupted concerning school fees."

"The transfers which I received from GiveDirectly, I first set a side tithe KES 5500 which I gave out in church. After thanking God, I now started planning for the remaining portion. It was my plan to start poultry farming with the transfers so that I would have a reliable source of income. I then spent KES 23000 to construct a poultry house. Another KES 7000 I spend to purchase a chain link wire which I will use to erect a perimeter fence around my poultry house. This will enable me to confine the birds around the house and prevent them from straying to my neighbours farm. As a young man I saw that it will also be good to have a cow and since I had invested I bought a heifer at KES 15000. The remaining KES 4000 I spent on clothing and on food."

"I spent my transfer on starting a popcorn business as my main source of income. I used the transfer to buy equipment and stock which I used to start off the business. Without the transfers, I would not be having the business by now. I also used part of the transfers to buy building materials such as iron sheets, nails, steel doors and windows which I used on building my own house. I am glad I have a shelter when I go visiting at home. The remaining amount I used on buying food for my family. I have always adopted the habit of buying food in bulk which is less expensive than buying on a daily basis."
