How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different from how it was in that, I am now a proud owner of a home besides having completed repaying the motorcycle loan which is my source of income.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
What I love about this organization is that this money is unconditional. For instance, I chose to buy a motorcycle that is my source of income.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent the whole of my second transfer on building a homestead. Initially, I was living in my parent's place where I had constructed a tinny hut. I wanted to have my own homestead since I did not have money, I could not achieve this goal. However, I now have my dream homestead courtesy of the transfer that I got from GiveDirectly.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
I now have an easy time because I can now easily pay the loan. This has given me an opportunity to focus on other household items and foodstuff which means that my life has changed for the better. My wife who left me due to poverty also came back when she heard that I received a life-changing amount from GD.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was so happy that I could not believe if the money was actually real.I decided to purchase airtime worth KES20 to confirm if it was really true. When I received an M-pesa balance stating almost the same amount,I knew it was real.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I used part of the money I received to clear a loan I had taken to purchase a motorcycle for a taxi business.I also purchased other household and personal items such as an audio system, clothes and bedding. I saved the rest on M-pesa as plan on how to spend it.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that I will be able to finish paying the loan that I had taken to purchase my motorbike. With the remaining balance, I plan to purchase iron sheets to build a much spacious house since the current one is small.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning when I wake up feeling very energetic and ready to go to work.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship that I am facing is not having a stable source of income to rely on. I recently took a loan to purchase a second hand motorbike in order to improve the amount of my earnings but unfortunately, paying for the loan is taking so much of the income. As a result, taking care of most of the basic needs for my family like providing food, decent shelter and even paying for school fees has become so difficult to the extent that it has led to the separation of my wife and I
