"Low crop production in my farm has been my biggest hardship since I depend so much on my farm. I therefore get very little income which makes me struggle satisfying the basic needs. The little I get from my 2 acres of land just feeds us for around 2 months leaving no surplus to sell. The low yield is attributed to lack of rains and lack of fertile soils."

"My spouse is away from home working. He rarely comes home and rarely supports me financially. I have three children. This has really made me struggle financially. I depend on farming which earns me very little since productivity in this region is very low. This is mainly due to prolonged drought."

"With my family of 5, the only source of income to cater to our basic needs is charcoal burning, a job that is time-consuming mostly 1 month to make 10 sacks that I sell at $5 per sack. The period between the preparation of charcoal to selling is a very hard one for me since I am forced to seek help for food from any reliable relative which in most cases I miss. Therefore, food insecurity is the biggest hardship that I have ever faced in my life."

"Dairy farming has been my passion and my dream ever since I was a young boy. Receiving this money would mean so much to me and my family as well because it will enable me to realize my dream. I plan to put up dairy structures with feeding traps inside at a total cost of 29500 shillings. I also plan to buy a water storage tank going for 28000 shillings. This will solve water shortages for my cows. This is a business opportunity that not many people have ventured into, and it will boost my family's income. I expect to get milk of around 20 liters every day which I will sell in our local market for 45 shillings a liter. That will give me a total of 900 shillings daily. I will use half of that amount to buy animal feeds and save the rest for a rainy day."

"As a widow whose age has significantly advanced, I tend to plan for the source of my livelihood at my old age. As such, receiving this money means that I shall lead a decent and relatively satisfactory life. This is because I will use the money to purchase a cow that will provide me with milk for consumption and sale. Once my herd expands, I will be selling some cattle to fetch additional income for purchasing other personal needs. Thanks GiveDirectly for coming on time."

"Financial problem is the biggest hardship I have faced in my life. As a charcoal vendor sometimes the market demand becomes very low and it forces me to get small income. It becomes very difficult to feed my family as well as paying the children school fees. This Financial problem has also led us to squeeze in our small house with my 7 children even there is no privacy because I do not have the finance to build a spacious house for the family."
