"Food insecurity is the biggest hardship that I have ever faced in my life. This is because subsistence farming can not be depended on and the only source of income is charcoal burning which is unreliable considering that, it's time-consuming and its income is very low. The time I usually take to prepare 2 sacks of charcoal is 2 weeks and this means borrowing food from my relatives before I sell my charcoal to earn me $10."

"I have desired to construct a decent house for my family like others in our village. Currently, I am living in a small, leaking grass-thatched house that has collapsed on one side. We experience strong winds at night and this has brought a lot of health challenges to my last born child who suffers from bone problems that have rendered her unable to walk or stand for 3 years now since she was born. Receiving this money means the realization of my dream as I am planning to spend $ 200 to construct a specious iron-roofed house. The remaining amount will assist me in taking my child to the hospital, she requires to undergo physiotherapy every month."

"Getting water for domestic use has been an uphill task for me. I have a younger family, zero grazed cattle and chicken that needs water on a regular basis. The distance to the water point is very far and to be able to fetch water, I usually hire a motorcycle or donkey to transport it for me. This is so expensive in the long run since I have to like fetch water on a daily basis."

"The biggest hardship I have ever experienced is provision of clean water for domestic use. The area that I reside is classified as an arid and semi arid land and so there is shortage of water. As a result, I am forced to travel far distance on a regular basis to fetch water. It is really a tiresome excercise and it is draining my energy that I could have used it on productive matters."

"The biggest hardship we have faced in life is prolonged period of drought. Owing to this, we have been unable to harvest much from our farms forcing us to look for an alternative source of income. I am therefore planning to buy a dairy cow to help supplement from what I get in my house construction job which has become hard to come by."

"Lack of finance is the biggest hardship I have faced in my life. I and my husband work as charcoal vendors. We usually move around selling the charcoal in different areas and we get an income of 10,000 shillings per month. This income is not enough to build a spacious house for the family, doing a livestock business, and paying school fees for my children. It forces us to share one room for my 3 young children and the others are being accommodated by neighbors."
