"The biggest hardship I have faced and still face has been providing for my family. I have a young child and that means she has to be provided a special diet to protect her from malnutrition. I spend a total of 600 shillings a month on buying milk for her. This is not easy considering that I depend on manual jobs to get this done. Foodstuffs are so expensive in this area because of persistent drought. That means we depend on food that is grown in other areas and then transported here. This is so expensive for some of us to afford."

"Goat and sheep farming is a lucrative project in this region that I have always wanted to venture in. They multiply over a short period of time and are less laborious compared to cattle hence engaging in such project is a store of wealth. I will therefore invest invest $600 of my transfer on 15 sheep and 10 goats, then spend $300 to build a more spacious two roomed iron roofed house to accomodate my visitors who usually spend their nights at a neighbour's house whenever they come around visiting."

"Acess to food security is the biggest hardship we face in my family. We own a 7 acre piece of land for farming but due to prolonged drought in this region, the farms are unproductive. I am an employed motorcycle taxi rider transporting clients and goods to various destinations around Bomet and I split my daily earnings of around $10-$8 with my boss. I spend all my earnings buying food for my parents as well as my own family thus I have not yet been able to build up savings to initiate bigger projects that would supplement my earnings. Life is indeed a struggle for me."

"As a widow, life has been a challenge because I the sole breadwinner yet I have no reliable source of income. Hence, receiving this money means that I shall manage to build a new house with iron-sheet roof. Accordingly, we shall have more space and rooms, especially for sleeping since we currently reside in a single-roomed house."

"A decent shelter for my family is what receiving this money means to me. Currently, we are living in a small, temporary house which is about to collapse, I have wished to own a good but I have not realized this due to the financial instability. I am planning to spend $ 250 to construct a two-roomed house for my family. I will invest the remaining amount in my children's educational needs."

"I am a temporary pleasant farmer growing maize and peas for my household consumption. Due to the dry weather conditions, we receive the long rains in March and April every year. During this time getting oxen to hire to plow my farm is very hard since they are in high demand. I am planning to spend $ 600 on purchasing my oxen and ox- plow to assist me in the preparation of my farm. This will assure me a high harvest hence enough food for my family. The remaining amount will assist me in seeking proper medical care for my children who have sickle cell anemia."

"I have been dreaming of purchasing a dairy cow so that its produce can increase my income. Depending on subsistence farming alone is not reliable because some times weather is not good."

"Receiving this money means that my children, especially sons, shall get their own house where they will be sleeping in. Currently, my sons have been sleeping at our neighbor's house, a practice that inconveniences them in different ways. At times, they could be forced to wait longer hours before they get welcomed."

"I am engaged in motorbike taxi business earning approximately Kenya shillings 400 a day as wage. This amount is hardly enough to cater for both school and domestic expenses. Therefore, I am planning to buy a dairy cow of approximately Kenya shillings 25,000 to help supplement from what I get from motorbike taxi business. My projection is to sell the surplus 5 litres a day earning Kenya shillings 150 a day. Reduced worries on food security and relief on financial constraints is what receiving this money mean to me."
