received a $502 initial payment.
"I spent my transfers to purchase two cows, to pay school fees for my children and to build a house. I have nine children and I sell charcoal for a living. My husband is a construction worker. We live in a small house that lacks sufficient space which forces us to squeeze in the house. I was very happy to know that I will be able to build a better house for my family."

"This transfer is going has brought a big difference in my family. I have been able to build a house that my sons can relax and sleep in. They are so happy about this because they will no longer have to go to other boy’s houses in the neighborhood to seek a place to sleep in. The transfer also enabled me to till part of my land that I had left untilled for a while. I have been able to plant onions on the piece of land and I will be able to get some income when I sell the onions. The calf that I bought with part of the transfer will serve as a reminder to me of the help that I got from GiveDirectly. This calf will grow and when it reproduces, I will be able to get milk that I can consume with my family and sell some. I was also able to invest some of the money in my business of buying and selling scrap metals. My business has thus grown and I know that I will be able to get more income from it. Thank you GiveDirectly for making this possible."

Zawadi
received a $502 initial payment.
"I spent my transfers to build a house, to buy two goats and to pay school fees for my children. I have six children and I run a small local hotel where I sell local dishes like tea. My husband is a casual labourer. I built a house because the current house that we own is small and we used to squeeze a lot inside. The roof of our current house is also thatched. I am very grateful to GiveDirectly that I can now live at a comfortable and more spacious house with my family."

received a $502 initial payment.
"I spent my transfers to purchase two cows, to pay school fees for my children and to repair my house. I am a housewife while my husband is a motorbike rider, and we have four children. Although he owns the motorbike, he doesn't always make enough money that would enable us to afford a cow or to always pay school fees in full for our children. I was very grateful to GiveDirectly."
