"I spent part of my transfer to purchase building pole, 16 iron sheet and paying labour charges for constructing new house because I used to sleep in the kitchen which is very small. This is because the one I had collapsed some years back. I used The remaining amount to apply for birth certificates of my 3 children and purchase enough food staff for the family."

"I was born in the neighbouring village and married here;not far away from home. What has been the main hardship all along is scarcity of food due to the dry climatic conditions. Being raised by a single mother was not easy since me and my sibling solely depended on her. With the casual jobs she did,we sometimes slept hungry are skipped meals. The tune is still the same here since crop farming does not do well. My spouse and I really struggle to put food on the table since we do not have a stable source of income. He does casual jobs in town while I farm and sell charcoal at home."

"When I got divorced about 10 years ago, I came back to my parents' home empty handed because my former husband sold all my assets including cows. I had to work hard to educate my 4 children through a small business of selling maize floor. Now that they are grow ups, I am planning to spend $900 of this money to buy them a 0.3 acre piece of land in an adjacent village. Owning such a property will immensely change my story and that of my children, which will greatly boost their esteem and dignity in the society and will no longer be called the children of a divorcee."

"I have been operating my brother's motorcycle taxi for the last 3 years where I make an average of $4 per day after paying him off. I would make much more if I had a motorbike of my own. Receiving this money is an open door towards self employment. Using my first transfer, I will spend $400 to deposit and acquire a new motorcycle and pay the rest in installment from the profits i make daily. Part of the profits I make from this taxi business will go into a savings which I will invest in livestock. I am grateful to GiveDirectly."
