"I dropped out of school while I was in class seven since my family faced challenges in providing food and paying school fees for us. This left me relying on casual jobs to provide for my family which has been a big struggle for me, I earn almost a $2 per day which is not enough for us."

"Lack of money has forced me and my family to live in very poor shelter. Receiving this money means that I can now build a decent house which is comfortable for my children. My plan is to build a two roomed house with an iron sheet roof at a cost of 250 USD. My current house is in a bad condition. I fear for my children's health especially during the rainy season. The leaking roof and the cold weather poses a huge health risk."

"Receiving this money means good education to my family. I have a daughter who did her KCSE on 2018. She got grade C plain. She has the passion to pursue clinical medicine. I have no money to take her to college. When I receive the money, I will take her to college so as to pursue her career. The course will approximately cost $300. I will appreciate seeing my daughter growing through her career."

"I have always wanted to start a business, in a butchery. This is because I have been employed in such a business before. I realised that it rakes in a lot of profits. My employer used to make about 150 USD per month. That could also be my story if I spend the money I get from GiveDirectly to start it. I will use the proceeds to improve my home by building another house. My current house doubles up as kitchen and a living room at the same time and this is not proper. I will also have money to pay school fees for my wife and child who is starting his education in August 2021. It worries me that he may not start on time if I continue to rely only on my motorcycle taxi which gives me just about 3 USD per day, barely enough for food, let alone, school fees."

"Receiving this money means that I will build a nice house for my boys. They are growing up so fast so that we can longer share the same room. They usually go to a neighbours house and this is not conducive for their studies. I will also buy a dairy cow to add to what I have. Any income that I will get from selling milk will assist me in meeting their education needs. The house that I will build will also give then a good space where they can they will have an amble time to do evening studies and do well in school."
