How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
After getting the second transfer, I got new goals which if I get money I will work on them. The first thing is getting a project that will be earning me a living and this is starting a business. Alongside the business I would like to keep livestock for commercial purposes
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my honest opinion, the organization came with an aim of empowering the people in our area. Initially people were living in miserable conditions but since GiveDirectly came we have been able to develop ourselves. This organization has no errors or areas to be corrected, it is just perfect.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
After getting the second phase of the transfer, I completed my house which I had started previously though it was incomplete. Thereafter, I bought some household items, fixed doors to my house. I also bought some poultry just for domestic use. Having done all those, I was pregnant by the time I received the money, so I took some amount and went to hospital and the remaining was for family upkeep.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was at my doorstep of my house, I had just arrived from fetching water from the nearby water kiosk. Immediately after reaching, I heard my phone ringing. I was so curious to know the content of the message since it was on that day the GiveDirectly stuffs promised to sent us the transfer. I felt very excited for receiving my transfer, because of the happiness I immediately called my husband to inform him about the good news. I had eagerly awaited for the transfer since we had already planned for it.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the I am happy living in a decent shelter with my family something that had restored. Previously. My house was small and leaks a lot .
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES 40,000 my transfer to construct a decent shelter for my family this is because the house that I had was small, grass-thatched, and leaks a lot during the rainy season. I was spending sleepless nights because of the poor condition of my house something that took away my joy. In addition, I used KES 3000 to clear the fee arrears of my child who is in PP2. I also purchased a new school uniforms for my kid and purchase new cloths for every member of my family.The remaining about I bought enough food for the family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Lack of money has forced me and my family to live in very poor shelter. Receiving this money means that I can now build a decent house which is comfortable for my children. My plan is to build a two roomed house with an iron sheet roof at a cost of 250 USD. My current house is in a bad condition. I fear for my children's health especially during the rainy season. The leaking roof and the cold weather poses a huge health risk.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My morning and evening hours are usually very busy. I spend this time doing house chores like fetching water and doing laundry. In the afternoon when the sun is up high and hot, I relax under the shade as I chat with my in laws. This is the happiest part of my day since it is my free time.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Financial constraints is what has been my biggest hardship. I have two children and I depend on farming while my spouse does casual jobs. Farming does not do well in this region because of the dry climate while casual jobs are not reliable. At some point I almost lost hope. My spouse was jobless and the prolonged drought left us with nothing. My daughter dropped out of school since I could not afford school fees and food. My mother came to my rescue. She took my daughter with her where she now schools because I cannot support her education.
