"I would still be living in my small one room house that served us as a kitchen, living room and a bedroom at night. I am now glad since the transfers enabled me to build a two room house and I am now using my previous house as a kitchen. Also, I was able to practice timely farming and did large scale cultivation this year as I was able to hire one acre of land for two years. Due to this, I am optimistic that my family will be having enough food throughout this period and in the coming years. Having been able to achieve all these makes my life different than how it would have been had I not received the transfer."

"I bought a dairy cow worth KES 30000 using my transfers and also spent KES 6000 to buy some poultry feeds. I settled on this so that I can be using income from from dairy farming to pay school fees for my children. In addition, I spent KES 3000 to pay school fees for my children since I knew that they would be sent back home anytime if I didn't pay. Using the remaining amount, I bought some food and household items for my family."

"The main challenge I am facing is money to build a house. My house is not nice. The other challenge is food. The harvest is not enough to carry us throughout the year."

"When I received my transfer, I spent KES 30000 on farming. I hired two acres of land, hired a tractor for land preparation and bought some quality seeds and fertilizers. I settled on this so that my family will have enough food to last us till the next harvesting season after selling part of the produce. Also, I gave my son in college KES 3000 to spend on his needs. Using the remaining amount, I bought some clothes, food and other household necessities for my family."

"I have two little children a boy and a girl. This means that I have to buy milk at 40ksh daily for them. This translates to 1,200 ksh a month which is expensive for me. With the money I will receive, will buy a cow with 30,000 ksh to help me provide milk for my family and also reduce monthly spending on milk. I will buy a tank with 17,000 ksh because our water source is far and it will help us store water. I will use 14,000 ksh to buy a sewing machine for my wife and a chicken shed with 10,000 sh in order to help me boost our income."

"We both of us felt sick ,we sufferedsame problem. it has really been paining me alot and has left me with more questions than answers .It is like a punishment to my family. My wife was right handed ,the stroke affected her right side of the body and therefore she had to learn to use the left hand . Also, I used to be left handed ,the stroke affected the left side of my body .To date I am still learning to use the right hand .This disease actually grounded us since it affected our active part of our bodies. We are really struggling to carry our daily routines. Life has never been the same. Disability is bad especially when it affects both parents."

"My life is different than how it would have been if I never received the transfers in that I have build a spacious and a better kitchen house. I do depend on small scale farming and the harvest that we get is only for consumption. I had no other source of income. I had always wished to build a better kitchen. When I received the second transfer I decided to complete the construction that I had started using the previous transfer. My kitchen was so small and I had no extra space to storing my stuff. Currently I have a spacious house where I can score my things without any disturbance. The space ease the movement and make work easier. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has changed our living standard. Currently I have a decent house, which has always been my dream."
