"The moment I received the transfer I felt so happy. I remember well that it was 9am, when I heard a ringtone message from my phone. I didn't bother much to check it. At that very moment I heard my neighbor celebrating, I overheard them saying it was the transfer from GiveDirectly. Then I remember getting the message, When I checked my phone I couldn't hide the job. It was message that indicate that I have received 550 dollars from GiveDirectly. I inform my family members and they also really celebrate. We immediately align on how to spent the transfer."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have bought a dairy cow. I used to buy milk daily and this was so costly for me. I do small scale farming and I also operate a small retail shop. The profit that I get from this is so small and cannot meet all the household expenditure including paying school fees for my children. I didn't had another source of income neither did I had savings to enable me to buy a dairy cow. When I received this transfer I found it wise to invest on dairy farming. This has enabled me to cut the daily cost of buying milk from my neighbors which was so expensive for me. Currently I am able to save some money which I could have used to buy milk to pay school fees for my children in various schools. I have also devoted much of my time to this amazing dairy project. I hope to see it grow and learn from it. I also wished to own more that three dairy cows in the next two years. This will be my main source of income since I will be selling the surplus milk to earn an income. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has changed my living standard and given us hope to improve our living standard of our next generation."

Zainabu
received a $366 second payment.
"My life is very different than it would have been if I never received the cash transfer. I was able to buy enough food for my family (5 bags of maize), I had no blankets and clothes but I now have enough blankets in my home and enough cloths. I had no pots or enough plate but I have now bought plates and pots for my home. If I never received this help my family would still be struggling in terms of clothes, food and we would still be sleeping uncomfortably on the floor. If I never received the cash transfer from GD I would not have enough money to start building my own house."

"Givedirectly is doing well by directly sending the cash transfers to our phones and not using any other channels like the government or the chiefs . This is very good because everyone is enrolled in the program and the is no discrimination . Givedirectly is doing very well in helping the poor and I have not found any problems with GD this far."

"My life is different than it would have been if I never received the transfer in that I am now assured of my children's education after paying their school fees in full. Previously, I did not have any money to support their educational need. In addition, I was able to construct a decent shelter, Back in the days, I use to reside in my small kitchen after my house collapsed and my kids us to be sheltered in my neighbour's house. Furthermore, I was able to start a reliable source of income by purchasing a dairy cow which will give a daily income once I start selling milk."

Nelly
received a $489 second payment.
"When I received my transfers, I spent KES 30,000 to purchase a dairy cow. I settled on this so that it would act as a reminder of GiveDirectly in our lives. Also, I spent around KES 10,000 to buy three sets of seats. We decided to buy them since the ones we had were old and few. We used the remaining amount on food and other household necessities."
