How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than it would have been if I never received my transfer in that I am living a comfortable life with my family. Through the aid, I was able to construct a spacious house for the family. Previously, I use to reside in a small house with the grown up children which I lack privacy with my husband. In addition, I was able to start a goat rearing activity a future investment for the family which will help us in case of an emergency.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well in deciding to help the poor households in our community. Through the transfer, there is a lot of improvement in the village since most villagers used the transfers wisely.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
For many years, I have desired to start livestock rearing especially goat keeping so that I may have something to depend on whenever I am faced with financial challenges. I have not been able to accomplish this desire due to lack of finances to fulfill it. I spent $ 230 to purchase 5 goats this is because they are easy to keep, and they can withstand drought conditions, unlike cows. In addition, I bought a solar energy for lighting the house and charging my phone.I also charge my neighbours' phones at a fee. The remaining amount assisted me in acquiring food and paying school fees for my children.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was preparing breakfast at exactly 9 AM when I heard continuous vibrations from my phone and I sensed there is an incoming message. Since I am illiterate I asked for assistance from my helper who was my son. On checking, he realized it was an Mpesa message from GiveDirecty. They had finally debited the first transfers that I was promised the enrollment which I thought wasn't genuine. Due to the excitement that I had, I even stoped cooking and started panning how best I could utilize the money.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that the transfers empowered me to construct a spacious iron-roofed house. The previous one was in poor condition was in deplorable condition with a leaky roof. After every six months I used to spend money on exchanging the grass I was initially using as the roof and it was relatively expensive. Sometimes I could not afford it and for that reason, during the winter season, we used to seek shelter from relatives and friends. Also, the house was not spacious and It could not accommodate some of my family members. I am now glad because I finally have a permanent solution. I will no longer have to strain in changing the roof as I used to do. Also, I will no longer have to worry about the bad weather like before. Inma now a happy parent becasue we are now sheltering in the same house with my children.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my frits transfer on buying some building materials which include building poles, timber, nails, and iron sheets. These were for the construction of a new house because the former one was grass-thatched with a leaky house. To add to that, it was very small and this forced some of my children to always seek shelter and their grandmother's house. Also, I bought goats that will now be the living assets that I can depend on especially when an emergency arises. With the remaing amount of money, I bought sufficient foodstuffs for my family and decent clothes for my children.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I'm planning to use 300 dollars from the donation to construct a two bedroom house for my family. I'll further use 400 dollars to buy two indigenous dairy cows for milk production. The milk produced will be both for domestic consumption and for sale. This will at least provide a reliable source of income for my family. In addition to this I'll use 250 dollars to buy food for my family. This will ensure that my children get a cup of tea in the morning before going to school.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning. Waking up in the morning healthy together with the rest of my family makes me happy.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced in my life is food insecurity. I have been unable to guarantee my family of ten the standard three meals a day. Sometimes my family members sleep hungry because there is nothing to cook.
