"Receiving this money means I will buy two oxen and a plough for ploughing my land which will cost me 30,000 shillings - I have been facing famine and luck of food in my house because I do not have oxen to early plough my one acre piece of land .I usually depend on other neighbors oxen which makes me ploughing late making me loosing harvests every season. I will cement my house which will cost me 20,000 shillings - I see it inconvenient and embarrassing that after taking my shower in the evening , I later step on an earthed floor ! I will also pay for my son's education which will cost me 23,000, My son is frequently being sent home from school because of luck of school fees. The rest of the money will use to buy food for the family and any emergency case."

"The happiness I had on receiving the first transfer was unmatched. It was early in the morning when I heard my phone rung and on checking, I could not read whatever was on the just received message. I would have sought assistance from my helper, but my grandson had to check it up for me since she was not around then. His confirmation that it was indeed the money we had been expecting made me so happy that I really thanked God for the then great promise that was getting fulfilled."

"I was heading to the dam when my phone started ringing since I am illiterate I asked my cousin who is also my helper to confirm who it was. Upon checking, she realized that it was an Mpesa message from Segovia Technology. After hearing this awesome news couldn't contain my joy. I remember having returned home and started planning on how to spend the transfers."

"I have a family of seven children who fully depend on me since my wife is just a house wife. With my small food kiosk business, I struggle to satisfy all the family's needs since I get around 2 USD profit in a day. Buying food, clothes, paying school fees and providing proper shelter for them has been real struggle. Low financial capability has therefore been my biggest hardship."

"I am a 21 year old with one child and currently seperated from my spouse. Financial constraints is what has been my biggest hardship. This is the main reason why I seperated from my wife. The relationship between my family and hers has been the big problem since I was not able to pay the dowry needed. I have only managed to pay half (200 USD) of what is required. Her parents came and took her back 9 months ago leaving me with my daughter who is two and a half years old. Other than the dowry I struggle putting food on the table for my daughter and supporting my parents as well. I depend on casual jobs which pay as little as 2 USD in a day."

"I depend on a cereal business within nearby markets to provide for my family and educate my children. When the coronavirus pandemic hit us, we were forced to stop going to the market and this cut off our main source of income thus living us with the few family assets to depend on. To me, the Coronavirus pandemic is the biggest hardship I have faced in my life."

"I serve as a night watchman at Chepkosa secondary school, a casual job that has enabled me to meet my family's needs and educate my children. Spending cold nights for more than a decade hasn't been an easy journey since I sometimes get sick and always go without enough rest but I persevere all this to have a happy family. To me scares resources in my family have put me in gold nights and unrestful days for twelve years and this has been the biggest hardship I have ever faced in my life."

"I am a housewife and I majorly depend on my husband who is working as a charcoal vendor. His job is tiresome and time-consuming yet its income is very little such that it can not support fully the needs of the family. We occasionally skipped meals and borrow from relatives something that ashames me. Therefore I consider financial crisis as the biggest hardship that I have even faced in my life."
