"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I am now leading a stress-free life after clearing the fee arrears for my child. Previously, I was always worried about the fate of education for my child since I had no money to support him."

"After receiving the first transfer, I have been lucky and one of the most grateful beneficiaries of the transfer as I have done a lot. The livestock I invested heavily in has been the greatest difference in my daily life. This has not only saved the cost of buying milk for my family but also brought the joy that has been elusive in the family. I am grateful and have promised myself to even make much more difference with the second transfer that I am currently anticipating."

"Constructing a bigger house for my family after receiving the first transfer has really boosted my morale and rejuvenated my energy. This has been the biggest difference in my daily life as I am slowly building a habit of waking up every morning to get things done. A time has come in my life where I wake up every morning with an urge to make a difference using the available resources with the hope of producing more and more to sustain my family. I am grateful to GiveDirectly for the great work, and even though we are just halfway, I am happy with the projects I have invested in."

"For a long time, I have been paying my children school fees in form of materials such as firewood and sacks of maize harvested from my farm. Since 2015 we have faced a great challenge because we have been unable to harvest enough maize due to drought, weather changes, and diseases. I have also fallen a lot of trees to supply firewood to schools as school fees. At the moment my compound is almost deserted due to cutting down of trees more often. Therefore receiving this money will enable me to pay a full-year school fee amounting to $500 for my son who is currently at Kericho Tea secondary school. I have also established a shop in the nearby center but I have not completed nor furnished it. Therefore I shall use approximately $100 to complete the shop, make shelves and paint it. The remaining $500 I shall use as capital for my business."

"I don't have a formal job to earn a stable income that can meet my family needs thus I am left with casual jobs and farming to depend on. The biggest hardship I have ever faced in my life is the frequent long droughts in our area since this affects our farming meaning I hardly earn enough to see my family through thought this is my main source of income."

"The biggest hardship I have ever faced in my life is the long rain between March to August 2019. Even though this was a blessing to us, the clay soil in our area made it a crisis. I remember waterlogging and browsing all over our farm to extend inside my two houses. We were rendered homeless and even my last born got sick due to the cold that we were in."

"My son was involved in a joined business with a relative in a nearby market. Until the year 2015, the business had been doing well until they both got themselves in huge loans that the business could not payback. The business went down and I was forced to settle the debt of amount KES300000 from my ECDE salary and since I couldn't afford it, I was forced to sell a piece of land to pay it off. To me, this was the biggest hardship I have ever faced in my life."

"I married not so long ago and therefore I have a young family. In my hierarchy of needs, I have been able to provide the basic needs to my family but not actualizing the plan to start investments. With this in mind, Receiving this money means that I will be able to buy two dairy cattle for 60,000 shillings and four sheep for 20,000. An increase in the number of these livestock in future will cushion me from the education expenses of my kids."

"Receiving this money to me means my children will continue going to school. My Son joined form one this year and I was not able to provide all that he needed when he went to school in August,2021 due to financial constraints.I am the sole provider in my family and I do casual jobs to earn a living which is not enough to cater for all the family basic needs such as food, shelter, clothing and education.I plan on paying a year school fees of Ksh 30,000 and other 20,000 on school levies, books and uniform for my son in secondary and other children in primary school. Owning a 4 roomed house too is my ambition and I will spend ksh 40,000 to buy 40 pieces of iron sheets, building materials and labour cost."
