"For a long time, I have heard about giving direct support in the neighborhood. Your coming here means I shall be able to make my dream of living in a cemented house come true. I shall use approximately $600 to renovate and cement my house. I also want to add one dairy cow worth $250 because the one I have currently belong to someone within the village. Buying a dairy cow is a great investment to me because farming is not very productive now due to the nature of the soils here and the drought. I shall sell milk and earn at least $18 a month which will gather for my household needs. With the remaining amount, I shall purchase a water storage tank because I can collect rainwater from these roofs."

"For the past two years, I have always wished to buy a dairy cow that would be my source of income from selling milk, therefore $350 of my transfer will enable me to actualize this wish. I used to own a cow 2 years ago, that assured me of a guaranteed daily pay from selling 5 liters of milk daily for $2 but I sold it to support my children's education after the demise of my spouse who was the sole breadwinner of our family. I will also spend $200 of my transfer to build a two roomed house for my teenage boys. Our culture dictates that teenage boys should not sleep under one roof with their parents, and this usually forces my children to sleep at a neighbour's house."

"I was happy when I heard that GiveDirectly were coming to hold compound meetings with us since we have heard a lot about their work. Receiving this money will mean a lot to me. First, I do have one cow that I was given by my son to milk because I sold the ones I had and some land to pay school fees for my son in secondary school. I intend to use $300 to buy a cow for milk to be used at home, use $100 to complete paying my son's school fees, another $100 to be used to complete my house and use $50 to stock maize since our place is not always productive."

"I was given a house by my parent to raise my children since I was not privileged to be married, therefore when I received this money I will use $500 to buy a piece of land then use $200 to build my own house. This will enable me move out of my own place. I will also buy clothing and food to my children with $100 and the remaining $200 I will use to start my enterprise(Buying and selling of second hand cloths). This will give me some income to support my family."

"Recieving this money means I will buy two dairy cows which will then produce enough milk for my family and be able to sell the remaining.
I will also increase my stock in my business of buying and selling cows in the market
Over sometimes I have lived a life of using all the profit I get in my business for buying food and other expenses in my house given that I am the bread winner of the family.
I plan to spend 600 dollars to buy the dairy cows and spend the remaining amount in addition of my business."

"The biggest hardship has been poverty. I was once married but my wife left me because i was not able to provide her needs. Getting food was a challenge."

"Receiving this money means a reliable source of income for the household. Currently am doing causal labor of house help, this job is tiresome and the earnings is very little of $1.5 per day. This amount is not enough to cater to all the basic needs of my family. I am planning to spend $400 on my transfer to start a kiosk that will act as a source of income and I am assured of getting a profit of $6 per day. I will further use the remaining amount of my first transfer to take my child to school and buy all things required for her to start school. $300 of my second transfer will help me to buy 10 goats that will act as a long-term investment project for my house. I will use the remaining amount to cater to other household needs like food."

"Receiving this money means a better livelihood good for my young family. I plan to purchase a dairy cow. I currently own only one cow meaning there are times I don't get milk. During this time, I'm forced to purchase milk costing me 10dollars a month. Being peasant farmers and depending on casual labour jobs to earn income, this is a lot, I cant support regularly. Sometimes we go without food. This will cost me 30 dollars."

"I have always wanted to buy a cow but due to constrained resources, that has never materialized. I own a shop which earn me a profit of Ksh 50 daily which I spend to buy food and not even a shilling is left to actualize my dream. That means I have nothing to save. I plan to buy a quality Friesian cow worth 35000 shillings. Out of it, I will get 5-7 liters a day which I will sell to locals at 50 shillings a liter. This will give me 250-300 shillings profits every single day hence making me financially independent."

"Receiving this money would mean more income for my family. I currently depend on casual jobs which pay US$2 per day to earn a living. With Givedirectly transfers I would like to buy a cart and two donkeys for US$500 so that I can use them to carry water that I will put in 20 litre jerrycans from the river. I will be selling every jerrycan for US$0.20 and I will be able to make approximately US$7 or more per day which is way better than what am getting right now.
For the other US$500 I would like to buy ten sheep. I consider this an investment since in the next 5 years when my first born will be joining high school they'll have multiplied and I'll sell them to support me financially."
