"Receiving this money is a great opportunity for me to improve my life. I am living in a house which does not have floor and it does not look good. In addition, there is nothing which i do to give me money as such i struggle so much to buy basic needs for the house such as soap, sugar and food just to mention a few. I believe this a turning point of my life as i will start a business which will help me have money to use for these other things. I am very excited to be part of the program"

"In my opinion, GiveDirectly did a great job enrolling each household within the village both young and old. The process was carried out in a great way that after educating us on how best we can handle ourselves once we receive the money for the in-house visits where we provided all the required details, and the responses to the questions they were asking. The officers were respectful and gave us enough time to ask questions to exhaustion. From what has been going on in the village, no one is complaining at all but instead appreciative of the great work done."

"On receiving the first transfer, I was happy to plan appropriately with my husband as we needed to accomplish a lot. With my family of three, we opted to renovate our old house that is spacious enough instead of constructing a new one. I spent KES10000 on buying building posts and timber useful in the renovation of the walls that were getting weak due to the raindrops splash. With the remaining amount, I spent KES35000 on livestock after buying a heifer at KES21000 and two goats at a combined cost of KES14000. I needed such an investment in livestock as we had none at all and this will help us in milk production in the future. I also paid KES4000 school fees areas for my son and the remaining amount was spent on foodstuff and other household goods."

"My life has really changed a great deal after receiving the transfers. All the accomplishments I have made right from the investment in livestock, construction of new houses, paying school fees for my three children, buying them new clothing, and also foodstuff would not have been possible if I had never received the transfers. I am grateful and hope that what GiveDirectly started in our lives will keep glowing in the future."

"I spent part of my first transfer on buying several building materials such as iron sheets KES 16800, building poles KES 7000, timber KES 600, nails and threads KES 1000, and labor cost at a total of KES 5000. I had to purchase all these with an aim of constructing a new house because the previous one was just a temporary small hut. Also, I bought a wooden bed for my children because they have been sleeping on some old mats for all that time. I later paid cleared school fees arrears (KES 3000) for my three children so that they can study without any disturbances. In addition to that, I paid off a dept of KES 5000 to a friend who owns a kiosk in the village. With the remaining amount of money, I bought enough food like maize flour, vegetables, and other household items like clothes for my children"

"The money will meant having a good house. I got married in 2004 and together we have two children. Since then up to now, I have making bricks that mostly sale. On average I make K50000 (approx $30) minimum and K80000 ($68) on a sale. This money is then used to buy food stuff, school fees for my siblings and clothes. Then I end up save nothing that will allow me to build a house. Sometimes the money will end by paying people or paying back debts. I am so happy that o have been enrolled into the program. With the help, I plan to build a good house. I want to have a two bedrooms house with a kitchen so that my wife shld be able to separate kitchen utensils with beddings. Then I and my wife, have agreed to use part of the money to buy land for farming. We have planned to buy it along river banks so that we should be able to be farming for the entire year."
