"Being a livestock farmer, my ambition has been to boost this career even before I got enrolled in the program. This is an activity that has been sustained us for all those years. I spent KES 24000 to invest in it by purchasing one cow and 2 goats this is because it was not stable since we experienced drought that killed most of my livestock some years back. I also used KES 10000 to clear all the school fees for my 4 children who are still in primary level. It was long since I paid their fees hence they had accumulated huge fee balances. The remaining amount assisted me in purchasing adequate food stock for the family, it has been since we had enough harvest from our farm. I was struggling to feed my family by doing casual labor of charcoal burning."

"It was around 8 AM when I was about to take breakfast when I heard a message notification from my cellphone. I was so nervous because it was too early to receive a message besides I was not expecting to hear from anyone. Therefore I asked my grandchild to confirm who it was. He later realized that it was an Mpesa message from GivDirely, I felt so happy because I was positive all my financial problems have come to an end."

"It was around 8:30 in the morning, when I was from the dam then a message notification popped in. I decided to ask my helper to check who had sent the message at that particular hour. After checking he realized that it was an Mpesa message from GiveDirectly. I was extremely happy and I wish you could see how I reacted. I still recall the day as if it was yesterday since it is a memorable moment in my life."

"Receiving this money is a blessing to me because i believe my dream of owning a shop will now be a reality. I have always wanted to open a shop but i lack capital to start. I want to have a shop because we do not have a proper shop for groceries here as such we travel long distances just to buy simple things such as soap. This money will help me to have all these basic necessities in my shop and people do not have to travel to long distances to get these."

"Receiving this money is a blessing to me and my family because I believe my life will now change to the better. I have been living in this house for over 2 years and I struggle during rainy season because it leaks. I plan to use the money to buy iron sheets to improve my grass thatched roof. I know if i have an iron sheet roofed house i will be sleeping peaceful during rainy season without worrying about water leakage. This money can help me buy enough iron sheets for the house and also use the other money to buy food. I would like to add some bags of maize so that i have adequate food to last me for a couple of months coming ahead"

"I feel like givedirectly empowers us(people) as it provides unconditional cash which helps in improving our living standards. This is so because I was not told on how to spend the cash so i made my own choices. Secondly, compared to how other organisations work, givedirectly officials visited my home and enrolled me in the program,,so this means that the chief and other village officials were not involved..I saw this as a good thing as sometimes things that go through the chief do not reach me. Lastly, I received a phone and a simcard which in my life I could have never imagined to purchase it on my own."

"Givedirectly provides a huge some of money in which we are given a choice on how to spend it For example, with my money I planned to use it in renovating my old house so that it can be in better shape...This is contrary to what other organisations do in the village as others just give us a small amount of money and then we are told on how to use it. Also, Givedirectly gave me a phone and a simcard which on my own, I could have not managed to buy it.. Furthermore, my living style has now changed..This is because I will be able to have better house meaning that I, together with my family will not be around in search of better shelter.."
