"Previously I had seven fully grown goats. Unfortunately, all of them died barely two years ago. Since then, I have not raised some, although I desire to keep livestock. Goats are my preferred livestock because they have shorter gestation period and are more beneficial than sheep. I will start working toward raising cows as soon as I acquire at least five goats. The seven cows I currently own make me long to have more. Once these goals are achieved, my family will have access to free milk. As a result, we will have food supplementary."

"20 years ago, our area had huge forests and people lived in harmony since we used to receive plenty of rainfall but this is not the case at the moment. Due to deforestation, the area is now desert and we no longer depend on farming because of prolonged droughts. We are currently depending on charcoal work which is also not reliable because we are forced to dig out tree remains to make the charcoal. This has made life so difficult and meeting our basic has always been a task for us. This has affected my children's education since my first son had to drop out of school when he was in form three. What a life! In addition, we are living a very miserable life which does not give me peace of mind. Thus, these are the challenges that I am currently facing in my life."

"My three daughters are in secondary school and another one is about to join a medical school. Unfortunately, they are all at home for lack of school fees. My husband and I do subsistence farming to make ends meet and for the past two years, we have not had a bumper harvest. This has made it difficult to raise school fees for them which disheartens us."

"To raise additional money for the family's needs, I have been selling roasted maize on the side of the road. Even though I make some money, the profit is low, and I long to diversify my business. My primary goal for this year, is to launch a vegetable sales business as I continue to receive my transfers. I have managed such a business before, and I know it is possible to realize more profit from the business. It will enable me to offer adequate support to my son Derick, and provide for some of our family's food expenses. I am a single mother and always motivated by a desire to give my child the best care a parent can offer to a child."

"My husband works as a security guard in town, and I am a farmer and we have seven children. Christmas came early for us because, upon receiving my transfer, I saw fit to buy enough foodstuffs for the house, which was a basic need. Afterwards, I bought a goat worth $40, and finally, I bought a mattress and a bed for $170. Finally, I purchased clothing for my children and saved $50 on the merry-go-round. All of this was previously impossible due to financial constraints. I am overjoyed and grateful for the assistance provided by GiveDirectly. "While grazing our family goats in the field, I received a message on my phone at around 4 pm. I did not haste to check since the phone was in my hands. Upon checking, the first glance of the eye hit the figure of $550. I became keener and I realized that I had received the money from GiveDirectly. My heart melted at thanksgiving for receiving such a huge amount of money at once. Due to the happiness that engulfed my heart, I could not wait for the sun to set so that I go to share the good news with my spouse."
