"There's a lot of poverty in the community. Our place is dry and we depend on livestock mainly. The country's economy has also worsened. Prices of commodities are high. There's little to no casual jobs now. In this village, one cannot get any jobs unless you move to the lower part, near lake Bogoria. Irrigation is done there. Due to lack of rains and the fact all farmers depend on irrigation. I can only get at best two days of work in a week. One's paid $2.50 per day. It's difficult sustaining a family with that. When it rains, many people farm and we're able to get plenty of jobs to support ourselves daily. Lack of casual jobs has affected my ability to support family."

"Lack of food is the challenge I am currently facing. I do subsistence farming as my job. However, it is four years now without rain in the village. This has caused drought and affected my work. I turned to casual jobs which are not accessible. The family takes only one meal per day. This has affected my family health."

Tabitha
received an initial payment.
"The most significant change in my daily life is that I now own a dairy cow, which was previously impossible due to financial constraints. This means I won't have to worry about buying milk daily for my children which were very expensive, yet I did not have a reliable source of income. The organization's support was extremely valuable in securing our lives, for which I am forever grateful."

received a $28 tenth payment.
"Before the year ends I am hoping that I would have saved up enough money so that I can finally build my own house. Apart from that,I was also hoping that this money will allow me to finally enroll into college this year where I can learn to be a teacher. I also intend on using the money to buy a couple of new attire for myself and my kid because most of our old ones are worn out."

Dzende
received a sixth payment.
"I had hoped to save up a sizable sum of the transfers this year, and when I did, I could use the money to add extra room to my home. This is due to the fact that I share my home with my grandchildren, and since my small room cannot accommodate me and the three of them, some of them must sleep on the floor. We also occasionally struggle with nutrition, therefore I also intend to use the money on food."

"I want to buy more iron sheets with the transfers this year, and then I'll start buying lumber. Since I currently reside at one of my relatives' homes, my ultimate goal in the entire process is to one day own my own home. Aside from that, I'll also consider nutrition-related issues because they've been a persistent source of difficulty for me and my children. My plan also includes financing my three children's tuition since I want them to continue their education unhindered."

"We have been orphaned since our young age me and my two sisters, our mother passed away since I was 2 years old and it's been many years since we have been living alone because our father left us when our mother died and we never knew him growing up. we are not able to work and be able to sustain our lives , we have sought support from the government and other relatives to be able to survive.
My young sister Francoise was not able to continue her studies because we are not capable of paying for our school fees and my twin sister Donatha had to drop out and went to another sector to work for some money to help me go to school."

Priscillar
received a $28 sixth payment.
"Being a farmer, my focus is primarily on grains, which grow well whenever there is sufficient rainfall. I often obtain a good crop during this time that is enough to last us for a full year, usually more than two bags, each weighing 90 kg. Due to the protracted drought, I currently harvest less than a bag, and in most cases, it is not enough to keep us fed for a month. My objective is to begin commercial chicken farming in order to increase my income. I'll be investing in at least two chickens each month to help me reach my goal. I will eventually sell some of them after the project has stabilized in order to raise money for our kids' school costs. As a result, my spouse won't have to bear the responsibility of being the only provider."

"My main goal is to support my children's education. I shall always divert most of my transfer to ensure that they have an opportunity to go to school and focus on their studies. Previously, I had begun to worry about how I could raise their fees based on my health condition. I am glad that I am in the GiveDirectly cash transfer program, and through this, I see the goal of supporting their education attainable. I know when they succeed, they will be responsible people in society. Thanks to GiveDirectly for the financial support."
