"The first challenge I am facing is living alone . When I fall sick, i don't get any immediate support, and this affects my healing process
I currently don't have enough capital to run my own business, I always do casual labor to be able to raise enough money to do some small business and I don't get the whole amount i need all at once. I once approached Sacco ( Saving and Credit Cooperative) because i wanted to buy a land , and they managed to give me a loan of $100 but the land couldn't generate income and i had to struggle to be able to pay the loan back it required me to sell my livestocks, i sold my only 3 pigs to be able to pay out that loan."

received a $28 sixth payment.
"My goal currently is to build a new house through the monthly transfers. I am planning to buy 20 pieces of iron sheets, and building poles in the near future. I will be buying part of these materials every month, and accumulating them until I am able to start my project. Owning my own house is what I am yearning for, which I believe will be fulfilled through the transfers."

"The biggest challenge is that we do not have enough land for cultivation. In addition to that we rent land for $5 or $10 per year but sometimes getting that amount is very hard for us. Moreover, we only have one cow which is not enough to get fertiliser and milk for our children."

Paulina
received a $438 initial payment.
"I felt so happy the moment I received money. The money came at a time that I was sick and when we were facing hard economic times. This was such a relief for me and my family especially after a long fight with illness where my husband had been battling cancer. We had sold almost everything at our disposal and we remained with very little at our disposal."

"I felt so happy the moment I received money from GiveDirectly. It did not come as a surprise to me since I had been informed earlier that I will receive the said transfer. I heard my phone ring and I instructed Betty my daughter to confirm to me who the message was from. She confirmed that GiveDirectly had indeed made good their promise of sending us cash as earlier promised.I felt so much relieved that I was finally going to be able to solve most of the issues that were a priority to me at that time. We later planned with my daughter on how to clear her medical bills following an accident which she was involved in. We were also able to pay school fees for my grandson."

"In my own opinion everything went well from the beginning of the program to the end. However, I think you should also enrolled youths who are self dependent even though they don't have families. The transfers can help them achieve financial independence because majority of them are jobless due to high rates of unemployment in the country."

"Givedirectly needs to prioritise our spouses during the fellow up survey, because being the primary recipient doesn't exclude the head of the family from the program. If any one of us is present, we can be interviewed."
