"My life will no longer be the same again in the next six months since I will have harvested and sold the vegetables which are currently on the farm. I will use the money I will get to start other income-generating activities. In addition to this, I will have built a shop using the bonuses I will be given by the tea factory near my home where I have been supplying green tea leaves for processing."

"Been forcefully married at a tender age of twelve is very traumatizing to any child. This is a situation that befell me when my parents selfishly gave me away just because of dowry. It is a predicament that almost every girl child faced during our time. What followed was every worse, I was not able to conceive, and as expected there was a lot of look down on me. My in-laws openly disrespected me. They were even pressurizing my husband to get another wife. Fortunately, he stood by me. We visited every hospital seeking for treating, and it was 15 years of agony before God blessed us with our first born child. It is my desire to never let my child go through what I faced back then. I will use my transfers prudently so that I can educate her to the highest level of education possible."

"I spent the whole of my transfer on treatment. I have been sickly and my wife was also unwell during that period. Getting this money was a miracle because it came at a time that we needed it the most. We actually used the whole amount to pay for our medical expenses. Life has changed since then because I got well and I have been able to go for casual jobs every day which was impossible before. I could at times struggle and try to work for two to three days a week but now I have recovered fully and is available to work anytime. My wife is also well and she can easily go about her duties with ease. I really thank GiveDirectly for changing my life."

"Lack of oxen for ploughing is my biggest hardship. In our culture, we use oxen to open farm land for crop cultivation. I therefore have to do casual labour in order to raise money that I use to hire bulls for ploughing. Owning oxen will enable early planting which yields at the and of the harvest."

"Receiving this money means that I will use it to pay dowery for my wife. It's always good to pay dowery because you will earn respect as a son-in- law. Part of the money will used to recover a garden that I had staked. If any balance remains, it will be used to purchase a cow which is going to provide milk for home consumption."
