received a $451 second payment.
"My life is much comfortable than it was in the past. For instance I constructed a three roomed house with the second cash transfers. This is a miracle to me because I never thought I would sleep under an iron roofed house. I knew I would die sleeping under a thatched house. I am very grateful to GiveDirectly for transforming our lives."

Jared
received a $22 sixteenth payment.
"My next goal in the next six months is to expand my vegetable farm. The farm is a good source of income and I believe I will be able to reap more benefits if I invest more on it. I am planning to expand the acreage of land under this plantation by leasing a piece of a farm from my neighbor. I will also buy more farm inputs which will help me get a better harvest in the next six months. I will be saving my monthly income so as to be able to accomplish this goal."

Ben
received a $451 second payment.
"Currently I am a happy person because I was able to bring a wife home and partially pay her bride price (as it is with my culture). She will help with a lot of work like cooking, gardening and give my life meaning. Before getting this transfer, I could not marry because I did not want the parents to my wife to keep demanding for their daughter's bride price.
Having cattle has as well changed my life in that they keep me busy unlike before when I had nothing much to do but only move with peers and sometimes end up in trouble."

Philip
received a $486 third payment.
"I have always preferred to be a full-time businessman so immediately I received the transfers, my main goal was to open up a business that could sustain the family going into the future by generating more money which we could use to keep the family going. I opened a butchery where we mostly sell fish. I had to pay the rental obligations for the small structure where we have been doing the business and I had to part with close to Kes 30000. I also had to buy the initial stock of fish which I started with and I must stay that it was very costly. On top of that, I had to get a deep freezer used for preservation purposes. Since the business premises was not in a very good condition and the standards I expected, I had to do a bit of renovation and repairs in order to bring to my expected standards."

"All my dreams and goals are directed towards ensuring that I clear my secondary school. Therefore, for the next six months, I will use my monthly transfers to pay for my school fees. I would want to have a humble time to study at school and get good grades. I believe through this, I will have to get a well-paying job to help me meet my family needs well."

"My next goal in the next six months is to buy a smartphone. We live in a digital world. Everything is done digitally. I need a smartphone which will help me do more business research. It will also help me advertise what I already have so that it will attract more customers. I am optimistic that I will own one very soon and I will be able to grow businesses wise"

"I expect my life to change in the next six months in that I will have started horticulture farming. This project will enable me to get enough food for the family and even sell the surplus at the market to meet the basic needs of the family from the profits I get when I sell surplus harvest."

"I expect my life to change in the next six months in that I will have finished building a house for my family. In addition to this, I will have started saving some money towards the purchase of a dairy cow. When the cow reproduces, I will have milk both for my family consumption and some to sell to earn an extra income. The number of my cows will increase which is a very good investment for my family."

"I expect my life to change in the next six months in that I will have saved enough money from my poultry projects and this will also enable me to buy a heifer. This has always been my dream and I know I will achieve it within the next six months. The heifer will help in milk production for sale and for consumption. It will also help increase the number of cows I own which is an investment for me."

Sofia
received a $22 sixteenth payment.
"I expect my life to change in the next six months in that I will have saved enough money to use in paying school fees for my children. With this, I will be optimistic that my son will not be sent back home next year due to lack of school fees. I would want them to have maximum time in school so that they can study well and pass their examinations."
