"Poor harvests due to crop pests and diseases has been the biggest hardship i have faced. We no longer depend on farming as a source of income in our family since the little harvests we get annually is only meant for family consumption. It has therefore been a real struggle educating my children since what we depend on is milk production from the two dairy cattle we have yet the milk produced is sometimes low depending on the weather conditions and the feeds and supplements that we donnot afford to buy. I have two children studying in college and one is joining University on September, Give Directly money just came in time."

"The biggest hardship i have faced in my life is the struggle my spouse who is a primary school teacher and I go through in meeting the needs of my family. We have four children who are still studying, two in the university and two in secondary school. The salary my spouse earns from teaching ain't enough to to provide sufficiently for the family since he spends three quater of his monthly salary in paying school fees, something that has made us lag behind in terms of initiating bigger projects that could be profitable in future."

"The biggest hardship I have faced in my life is lack of a stable source of income.I have a diploma in Business Administration but securing employment has been a nightmare.I decided to venture into small businesses which have not been that successful because of lack of funds.I once opened a shop but it did not do well which led to the closure.I have great ideas in my mind but implementing them requires money.I now practise farming and a little bit of livestock business especially during market days. This is not enough to satisfy all the basic needs including school fees for my children."

"Being in a polygamous household comes with a lot of struggles especially when the resources available are not sufficient. In our case, for instance, we are three wives and our husband has no reliable source of income. He mostly depend on casual jobs which are hard to come by. Receiving this money means I will stop overburdening my husband with responsibilities but instead be part of the support system in the family. To achieve this, I plan to start up Kiosk business that will enable to generate income. Secondly, I will invest part of the transfers in livestock rearing. This is a way of saving money, of which in five years or so, I will be having good returns that can help in educating children with much ease. Finally, the house we are living in is very tiny, and barely accommodates all of us. Therefore we plan to expand it a little bit. And that is what receiving this money means to me."

"I experienced changes in my life because, for one I was able to pay full school fees for my son for that term, something that I would have never been able to accomplish was it not for the cash transfers from the organization. Secondly, I now have a cow which I have been milking for the last two or so months so I no longer buy milk from vendors as I used to do in the past."

"I spent part of my transfer on purchasing a second-hand motorcycle. After doing enough research I realized that this was the most lucrative business. I really hope it will be successful because I have invested all my savings in this project. I spent the remaining amount on repairing the spoilt parts of the motorcycle. I decided to look for a permanent solution for unemployment because I used to depend on casual jobs especially construction work which was unreliable and very tiresome. I am now assured on getting a daily income without straining too much like I used to do when handling casual jobs. I also bought a few clothes. I now look decent and presentable. I really thank Give Directly for the changes I have made within a short period of time."

"Imagine being a single mother of three and with no sustainable source of income. Many a times my first born child was sent home due to a colossal amount of arrears in school. At one point I had to sell my sheep and the only dairy cow I had to take my son through secondary education. This further pushed me to a dire situation of lack of income to run my domestic duties. Struggling to invest in my children's education has been the biggest challenge I am facing but nevertheless I am optimistic that one day the sun will rise. "

"Receiving the money means adding stock to my business. The business will be generating daily income that will be offsetting daily problems. I will also buy some cows that will act as an income generating activity for my hoisehold in order to cater for future contigencies of my family. The stock I have currently is small and it can not sustain my family needs."

"Timely payment of school fees for my children is one of the stressful things in my life. I am running a small business but much of the money I get goes to pay their school fees and in most cases, I am not able to pay it in time which affects their academic performance in class."
