"The biggest difference in my daily life is that the financial support enabled me to boost the kiosk business that I was running for quite some time. I had solely depended on it for my family's daily upkeep and since I was also the breadwinner, I could utilize some of the capital to cater to any emergency. Therefore getting good returns wasn't easy hence affecting my living standards. I am now a happy dad because after reviving and boosting the business, I have been earning good profits making it easier for me to meet my family's needs without struggling like before."

"This money will go a long way in reducing poverty in my household. We depend on our small garden as a main source of food which is never enough and sometimes my husband goes to do a bicycle taxi business. When we receive the money, I am going to consult with my husband on how we should spend the money as we have many problems. However the main priority will be to secure enough bags of maize so as to have enough food for the coming winter when maize prices are up. The other money will go towards having an iron sheet roofed house and also buy some livestock to rear and sell them in future."

"I have been living in this village for the past fifteen years with my husband. Both of us have tried establishing small businesses but due to low capital we fail to maintain them. Hence, this money has given us hope to start afresh and decide on how to invest it and use the profits to sustain ourselves in future. We fail to finish the house we started to build as you can see it has no windows and cemented floor. We struggle alot in winter and rainy seasons but we have no choice to go another house. This money also means a warm and comfortable house for us. I believe my children too will also have their school needs taken care of. I have also been struggling to pay their school fees which is not that much as they learn at government schools but we have hard choices on whether they should eat or go to school hungry. Hence they are always home sometimes due to lack of school fees and other needs."

"The biggest hardship that i have faced in my life is actually lack of money to build a better and proper house. I have never slept in a good house in my life. Every year I struggle during the rainy season as this house leaks and it is dusty."

Lilian received a $491 second payment.
"I used all the second transfer on funding my education since I was pursuing a short course on plant operations. Since I am a single mother from a humble background, my worry has been how to raise the college fees. The meagre income I usually attain from varied casual tasks that I handle in my vicinity could barely sustain us, leaving me with no savings for funding my studies."

Janet received a $491 second payment.
"I spent all the second transfer (53,000 shillings) on improving my house replacing a mud wall with timber. It has been my desire to have a better house that demands lower maintenance costs. The previous state of the house looked dull and dusty yet we could use lots of resources (energy, soil and funds) in maintaining it. Unfortunately, we couldn't afford to develop our house since the little gains we attain from our subsistence farming is barely enough to meet our basic needs."
