"I am really grateful for being considered in this program. I have been struggling to make both ends meet. My child is in form 1 and I have been struggling to pay his school fees. With the money, I will be able to pay the school fees. I will use part of the money to buy blackets, some bags of fertilizer. My house is also very small and i am planning of building a bigger house with iron sheets on its roof. I will also buy some bags of maize for food processing."

"According to my, GiveDirectly did an excellent job in the entire village and you could tell this through the various transformations. Also, every beneficiary was well informed on how best he or she can utilize the money appropriately without wasting even a single coin. This was facilitated by the GD officers therefore in my opinion, I do not see any part GiveDirectly needs to change."

"I spent part of my second transfer on buying some building materials such as iron sheets, nails, and timber. This was for the completion of my house that I had initially started constructing with the first transfer. I also bought fifteen goats that are now serving as the living assets that I will rely on at any time. In addition, I cleared school fees for my grandchildren who are still in primary. With the remaining amount, I bought enough foodstuffs for the family."

"My life is now different than before because through the transfers I managed to construct two houses, that is for my children and mine. Initially, we used to shelter under a very small house which couldn't accommodate some of the family members also the roofing was too old. I had the dream of construing a decent spacious one but I couldn't afford because buying the necessary materials was very expensive. Therefore we used to seek shelter from our friends which absolutely stressful. Life was unbearable and we and hoped for a financial breakthrough that would at least end what we were encountering. I am glad now because we are all big under one roof. In addition to that, I am now sleeping on nice beddings and I no longer complain of back pains."

"The biggest hardship I have faced in my life was in the year 2007 when I lost my parents. Since then I had no one to depend on for school fees payment and more so food because my elder siblings still young also. We had no others but to seek for assistance for any well wishers untill recently I was now old enough to start doing casual jobs to raise school fees and meet other family basic needs."

"Receiving this money means I will be able to own a piece of land. Our desire has been to have a piece of land of our own but due lack of resources we have not. The little we get from the milk trade we do mainly meets the family basic needs. God willing we receive this transfers we will purchase a quarter acre piece of land that will cost us around 70,000 shillings. This will ease for the high cost of leasing land for cultivating maize for consumption."

"Receiving this money means a better house for my family and this will lead to better living standards. Unlike today, I occupied my kitchen as the residential house and it is very small such that, it can not fully accommodate us. This has forced my children to seek shelter from my daughter-in-law. My plan once I receive this money is to spend a better portion of the transfer ($400) to construct a decent house and $200 for beddings. This will restore the dignity that I have lost for a long and also the confidence of welcoming my visitors whom I have postponed their apportionment. The remaining amount will help me to buy 2 indigenous cows that will help me to produce milk for household use and also for sale to earn income."

"Receiving this money from GiveDirectly means I'll own my of piece of land to do farming. I have been surviving on borrowed farming land from my neighbor for the third season now. I don't like this at all and I feel like I need my on piece of land. I will use 800 dollars to buy the two acres of land each valued at 400 dollars. Getting the two acres will guarantee my family atleast 4 bags of maize every season and this will be a plus in as far as my family's food security is concerned. I'm planning to use the balance to buy two indigenous dairy cows for milk production both for domestic use and for sale. This will boost my family's nutritional status and doing all this will give me the peace of mind I have always desired."

"The inability to secure a well paying job to sustain my family has been my biggest hardship in life. I'm now forced to engage in charcoal burning, an occupation that's is not sustainable. Sometimes I'm unable to meet my family's basic needs such as food. This has made our life miserable with no hope of prosperity."
