How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
After spending all the transfer that I had received on the purchase of a piece of land, I am now eager to venture into other income-generating businesses. At the moment I am working hard on the piece of land to ensure that the farming practices I am carrying out will generate some income enough to build my savings towards the opening of a clothing and shoe line in the nearby shopping center. I had been passionate about starting a business but was not one of the plans I had for the transfers that I received since I needed a piece of land that would first give a grazing space for my livestock and a portion for the crop farming. All these are geared towards realizing a long-term dream of getting back to school again for further studies.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
It was a great blessing having GiveDirectly visit and support our village right from the first to the last transfer. In my opinion, this initiative gave a new face to every household and more so the whole village. we were given a chance to listen to and decide whether to receive and spend the transfer independently without any push but ensuring that they change our lives or not. The fact that the support was only limited to the two transfers made every household spend wisely following the teachings we had received during enrollment stages. I can't see anything to complain about but to just encourage GiveDirectly to keep supporting other villages as well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Living in a small piece of land that my husband had when I got married with livestock and crop farming running concurrently on the same piece had never been that easy. One side would always fail since the land was so small. When I was enrolled in the program, we talked with my husband and came up with a plan to combine both transfers, obtain a loan from the bank with my husband's job being the security, and purchase a piece of land that came to pass right after receiving the second transfer. The total cost of the half-acre piece was KES 210000 and the KES 110000 from GiveDirectly played a big role since we could now take a huge load to top it up. I am glad that we are now the rightful owners and looking forward to a productive farming season that will enhance the start of another new income-generating project for my family of four.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
When the transfer came, I was sleeping in my house because I was not feeling well, it was at around 9 am when I heard my phone ringing, on checking out what it was, I saw a message notification that showed that I had received a sum of KES 55000, I was overwhelmed with joy and happiness, I immediately informed my mother in law who was looking after me because I was sick, I then called my husband to inform him, we all celebrated that day with endless touches of laughter because this was the happiest day in our lives like no other.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my life is that I have been able to save up KES 50,000 in a very short period, unlike before where this would have taken months to collect my savings together, We are so happy and relieved that our dream of owning a piece land will soon be realized, this is like a dream come true, we count ourselves blessed and lucky to have gotten the aid from GiveDirectly, My husband and I are grateful that our lives were impacted greatly.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I am a businesswoman in the village, I sell milk and other foodstuffs, my husband and I have been saving up some money so that we can buy a piece of land, We are still living in family land, When I received my transfer I knew that the money would be of great value to us, We had agreed that we would save the money till we get our second transfer so that we can acquire a piece of land, therefore we saved KES 50,000.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means I will be able to own a piece of land. Our desire has been to have a piece of land of our own but due lack of resources we have not. The little we get from the milk trade we do mainly meets the family basic needs. God willing we receive this transfers we will purchase a quarter acre piece of land that will cost us around 70,000 shillings. This will ease for the high cost of leasing land for cultivating maize for consumption.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I usually transverse the village collecting raw milk for sell. This is a tedious task that runs from mid morning to later afternoon. Therefore the happiest part of my day is in the evening when I am taking some rest after successful completing my days activities.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced in my life is to pursue my dream course. I complete my secondary education in year 2019 and failed to progress with my education since my parent could raise school fees anymore. Their main source of income is subsistence farming and this could not sustain school fees for my collage level and my other 2 siblings at secondary level and others in primary level.
