How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than how it was before because I managed to build a very spacious decent house. Before then we used to squeeze ourselves into our small hut which was so hectic since I was in a polygamous marriage and being the send wife some of my children were very young and I even felt unsecured letting them seek shelter in my friends. Life was so terrible but then I had no choice. I am glad GiveDirectly changed my situation because this constant problem was well sorted. Also with the goats, I believe they will help me in schooling my children and meet other basic needs because very soon they will multiply.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly does so well by empowering every household in our village. This is evident since the majority of us now have spacious iron-roofed houses unkie before whereby they were small grass-thatched huts. Also, no one of us owned livestock but for now, almost all households have quite a number of them. Which has made us even proud becasue we are certain our future shall be brighter.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my second transfer on buying some building materials such as iron sheets, nails, and timber. This was for the completion of my house that I had initially started constructing with the first transfer. I also bought fifteen goats that are now serving as the living assets that I will rely on at any time. In addition, I cleared school fees for my grandchildren who are still in primary. With the remaining amount, I bought enough foodstuffs for the family.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 10 am when I was heading to the farm when I heard the notification from my phone. I was so happy when I saw an Mpesa message from Give Directly. I had finally found the hope of achieving my goals through the financial support.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I am now a proud owner of some goats. I decided to rear goats because they reproduce twice a year and require minimal supervision compared to other domestic animals. I am hopeful that they will multiply and increase in number within a short period of time making me wealthier. For this, in case I have any financial need, I will sell some of the matured offspring and sort out the matter. Thank you GiveDirectly for making a positive impact in my life.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my transfer on buying some iron sheets, building poles, threads and nails, This was for the construction of a new house which I had really been longing to own for years. The previous one was small and in poor condition. To add to that, I bought some goats that will serve as living assets. For the remaining portion of the money, I bought enough foodstuffs for my family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
To achieve food security has been my biggest ambition for ages. This is because I rely mostly on buying food since I do not produce enough out of farming. My less production is a result of unpredictable rainfall patterns that, require speed when it comes to farm preparation. Receiving this money therefore means purchasing oxen to scale up farming. This will save me the cost of hiring since it is quite expensive. I will also hire them at a fee to generate income.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning when I am taking breakfast with my grandchildren. Seeing them enjoy their meal brings satisfaction to my heart.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Financial instability is my biggest hardship. This is due to the fact that I do not have a stable source income. To make ends meet I burn charcoal for sale but it is labour intensive. At my age it is even more difficult because I do not have enough strength to do it. This has resulted to a struggle in getting basic needs especially food.
