"Let me start by thanking GD for this program. I feel so blessed. My life has changed for the better. Now I live a happy life because I have peace of mind. I have managed to pay school fees for my two children using the transfer and it was a challenge before. I also bought clothes and we are all looking good as a family. I also just built a house and I failed to finish it. The transfer gave me an opportunity to finish my house. All I can say is that God should bless GD."

"I have always aspired to rare dairy cattle that will enable me to start a milk selling business. Milk is a commodity that is in high demand within our area. Lack of capital has seen this idea remain idle in my head for a very long time. Receiving this money means that my dream of starting dairy farming has come true. I will invest KES 45000 in purchasing a dairy cow. This will make me start my dairy farming business. Furthermore, my son is pursuing his education at Karatina University, which has been giving me sleepless nights due to school fees areas. I will use KES 30000 to clear school fees areas and have now peace as I work on providing for my household. For the remaining money, I will buy a plastic water tank to harvest rainwater and avoid perennial water shortages."

"I have spent the most of my transfer from Givedirectly to improve my house because it has been in a bad shape for a long time and there was a possibility that it could have collapsed any time."

"I am a single mother of two and I live within the compound of my father. It has been my ambition to own a piece of land and build my own house. I have been saving money from my small business of tailoring and I have so far managed to raise KES. 150,000. I am so glad for Givedirectly transfers and from what I have, I plan to use KES.40,000 to buy the materials, KES. 30,000 for labour and spent the remaining balance to pay for paying school fees for my children."

"My biggest cry was to have a decent and a comfortable house to accommodate my family. This has been impossible to achieve since I am no longer able to make charcoals for sale as before due to old age. We, therefore, lived in a small old-leaking traditional house that was congested. When I received the first transfer, I started building a better house, but I could not complete it since the money was not enough. For this reason, I opted to wait for the 2nd transfer so as to complete the house. As at now the house is complete and my family is living comfortably. I also used part of the second transfer to pay school fees for my children, I also bought 2 goats and a bed; and saved the rest for the family’s upkeep."

"I am a widow living with my grandchildren who are orphans. One of them is in secondary school while the others are in primary school. On receiving the 2nd transfer, the first thing I did is; I bought 6 bales of maize flour. I took this step due to the hunger condition we have been going through. Thereafter I settle some fee balances for my secondary grandchild so to have good learning environment as well as to concentrate. Since I had no bed at all, I bought a bed and a mattress. The act of buying these items has made me to improve my shelter condition since am now sleeping comfortably not like before. The remaining little amount I kept it for emergencies."

"Receiving this money means better education for my children. My husband passed on nine years ago therefore making me a breadwinner to my family of 2. I opened up a maize business at Chebunyo 2 years later to support the family. Unfortunately, the business failed as I used all the profit and the capital to pay school fees for my last born son in grade 9. I will set apart KES 70000 as school fees for my 2 sons in grade 9 and grade 12. They will consequently have a chance to be educated and hence have a better life in future. As a result, my dream of a brighter future for my children will have been achieved."
