What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I am a mother of five, four are in school and one is still too young to join. I also manufacture brooms made of sun-dried palm tree leaves for a living and my weekly profit is KES 300. This I would substitute to what my husband makes as a traditional palm wine brewer so we could raise funds to fend for the family and also pay for the children's school fees, which are currently in arrears of KES 600. When I got this transfer, two of my children had torn and untidy school uniforms. So, I decided to use half of it to purchase some new ones. Once they reopen, they will now look smart and more confident. The remaining amount I used to purchase some food as we had run out of it.

In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
So far, I don't think there's anything that you doesn't do well because I generally love all what you do.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I am a house wife and a mother of six so I'm totally dependant on my husband who brews and sells local beer to cater for the family. With the prolonged drought, he couldn't have as many customers as he used to have during harvest seasons because people were spending the meager wages that they were earning from casual jobs to buy food. Therefore, the little amount he was earning from daily sells couldn't afford us food, school fees and other needs. My school going children accumulated huge fees arrears and they were send home and since it was towards the end of the term, they wouldn't be allowed to sit for their exams. When I received the transfers, I Paid Ksh 1500 so that my kids would be allowed back in school, spend Ksh 1300 to buy prescribed drugs since I was very I'll and 200 to buy food. I am so grateful to GiveDirectly for coming to my rescue.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The message saying the money had arrived came at around ten in the morning and at that time I was just sitting in the compound very stressed out because my children were out of school and I had no money whatsoever to ensure they went back and continued studying. The arrival of the message made me very emotional and happy at the same time because I felt as though God had listened to my prayers.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
This funds could not have come at a better time if I do so say myself because I had no idea as to how I would manage to whip up cash and ensure that my children went back to school and got an education. So I am very thankful for the support I received at that moment.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I happen to have four children in my house but two of them had quite an outstanding balance in their school fees and had actually been not attending school for two days before the money arrived. So immediately I received the money I went ahead and settled some part of the debt so that they would at least be allowed to go to school and paid KES 500 for the two. Then as for the rest of the money I sought out to take care of the nourishment of the family since it had been quite a problem putting food on the table for the last couple of days. I therefore bought five packets of maize flour at KES 500 then what was left I bought sugar and salt which was KES 150.

My husband is the sole breadwinner and when he was taken into custody few months ago and spent 3 months in jail life was not easy because I was not able to buy food and other basic needs for my children.
