"Food insecurity is the biggest hardship I have faced in my life. This is caused by the long drought seasons we are experiencing in our areas. Nowadays, I depend on charcoal burning this job is tiresome and earns me KES 200 after 3 days. This amount is insufficient to cater to our basic needs such as food."

"I am a 66 years old widow. With my old age, I am no longer strong enough to be fully economic productive. I work as a charcoal burner. Charcoal burning is a very tedious task which needs alot of energy. With the old age catching up with me, I am becoming less energetic day by day. I am planning to buy 10 goats at a total cost of 30,000KES. The goats will enable me to be self reliant. In a few years, the goats will have increased in number and I will sell some to earn an income. With the income, I will be able to provide for myself without depending on anybody."

"For the past three years, my husband, my children and I have been living in a house that is in a very poor condition. The house is almost falling, it has no door. This has made us feel very insecure and unsafe to stay in this house. The house can be brought down incase of very strong winds. I intend to construct a new house at a total cost of 40,000 KES. A house that will be very safe to live in. A strong, good looking house will bring dignity to my family."

I have been struggling a lot to pay for their school fee's since am the only one they are depending on. I was evicted from Mau forest in 2019 and my parents had passed on. I started from scratch and thing's have been very hard. My children have been send out of school several times even missing exams because of fees problem. When I receive the transfer, I will spend KES 60,000 on paying school fees for the children and clear the balance I owe the school. I will buy a dairy cow Worth KES 30,000, buy foodstuffs and clothing's for the family using the remaining amount."

"I retired from teaching four years ago, I am now a farmer, and the transition has been tough. I was used to a payslip at the end of every month but now with farming the money most times comes out from my pocket. Seasons like this when it is so dry can be disturbing, being anxious about where the next meal will come from and how I will pay my childrens school fees."

"My business currently is so down. For the past six years, my source of income has been from brewing wine. The current drought has affected my productivity and also people are not buying beer as they used to. Everyone keeps saying that the times are hard, but I have to keep working just to be able to feed my family."

"I have always wanted to have some livestock, cows to be specific. When I start receiving this money, for the first eight months I will invest in buying goats, then I will give them time to breed. I will then exchange the goats for cows. My target is to have about four cows. The cows will come in handy when times are hard. So far my two children have benefited from the previous cows I used to have. I sold them so that I could educate them to college level. For the rest of the money, I will continue paying school fees for my daughter who is still in primary school."

"Lately, we do not have enough food. My husband is paid once a week and the money is not enough to buy us food and foot other bills. I have been thinking of starting a kitchen garden so that we don't have to struggle with vegetables. The biggest setback to this project is the pot supply of water. I'm still hopeful though."
