"The biggest hardships I'm facing now is money. I want to start a business and build a house in Monrovia but I don't have money. Although I was making business to sustain my family but my business collapse in 2017 when I got seriously sick. After I recovered I started burning charcoal in order to sustain my family but the money I earn from the Charcoal I burn is not enough to build a house and start a business."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is that the cash transfers empowered me to clear school fees for my son who was in his final year in college. Previously, he used to be sent home more often due to fee arrears which have been affecting his academic performance all along. As a parent, I was always stressed up because and I had even lost hope in life. Being a widow, I was the only breadwinner of the family and the little money I got from the casual jobs( selling charcoal earning KES 150 per day) were not enough to pay school fees and provide for their basic needs like food. Since I am illiterate my dream is to see my children get a good education so that it can change their future generation. I am happy with this because since he is on his final year there is a bight future ahead courtesy of GiveDirectly."

"If god help us get this money, we have planned to build our own house. We need our own house now. Many it has always been our wish to have a house of our own. we living in our uncle house who always threatened us or disgrace in public. More to that our children are growing and they shall one day want to have a place called their own. This plan if realize it will be a great achievement our lives. We can our own house that tomorrow we can leave with our children. We also decided to have portion of this money be used in establishing business for us. With business, we will be able to generate profit that could in return handle our problem that we are faced with. Now that the farming is under producing causing us to always borrowed money always. This belittle us in that people say all sorts of things about us which causes us shame and embarrassment. With our plan being achieved, our hardship will reduce"

"Our main challenges is getting money to find food for the family and to send my children to school. Since last year things it has been difficult getting money to support my family with food. The farm we're making is not producing to help us get the money we want to be able to provide enough food for the family. The land is poor, causing the crops produce little. It's difficult to sell and get good money to settle this problem. Many day the children go to bed with insufficient food. Our children were put out of school this year due lack of money, just like the years before. We don't have money to send children to school. With money we believe the problem for food and school fees will be solved."

""If I get this money, I will use portion of it to fix my house, and use other one to send my grandchildren back to school. My house is old and the roof is leaking causing the walls to fall each time it rains. If I don't fix it, pretty soon the house will fall and I and my grandchildren will have nowhere to sleep. I want my house to stay longer so that my grandchildren can live in it when I am gone. During raining seasons we experience heavy pull of water in the house spoiling our things. It's make us sick each time. Having the house fixed, it I will at least have peace. My big daughter died 2 years ago and left behind 3 children. The usually come home, and this where they can stay. I am their everything, and I don't want to have problem with living place. The portion of the money with be us to send my grandchildren to school. Like I said, their mother died, and no one to pay their school fees. If I send them to school tomorrow they will live a better live, and will be happy wherever I will be."

"When I receive this cash transfer, I will use some to complete my house construction, spend some to pay my children school fees and use the balance to start a business to sustain my family needs. I am currently living in my grandmother house within a one bedroom with my five children and husband. The situation is very stressful because most nights some of the children would not sleep and some cried, I will have to make sure they sleep before I sleep. My husband and I are constructing a new house that will have enough space for everyone comfort. Initially we planned to use a thatch roof but hopefully we will own a iron sheet or Zinc roof...."

"When I receive the cash transfer, I will use some to build my house, spend some to pay my children school fees, and use the balance to reopen my shop. Since I was born, I have been living in this village my entire life with my family in this thatch house. During the rain season we always struggled removing our things around within this house to prevent because everywhere can become wet. My ambition is to one day own a iron sheet or Zinc house to ease the burden when rain season comes. My children education is one thing that worries me daily. I was running a shop which enabled us get meal on time and pay my children school fees but since my wife got sick, we used up all we had to get her healthy but she's not yet fully recovered yet (sore foot) and that closed the shop and impeded my children schooling. My source of income now is sale of charcoal to sustain my family... If I receive this cash transfer it will really help to improve me and my family livelihood."

"I planned to use my transfer to renovate my house. The zinc you are seeking over the house is old and water can penetrate when ever the rain comes down. Just recently, the storm removed some of the sticks so the leakage is too much now. All the sticks over the house are all rotten but no finance until God directed GiveDirectly to this town. We have been working towards the renovations work over the past years now but have been been unable to generate the finances. Can you imagine, our only source of income is cassava and cassava products but the price now on the market has dropped."
