What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent the last three transfers majorly on school fees for my two children and food for my family. I received kshs 1,200 as the first transfer. I paid school fees of kshs 600 for my daughter who is in grade 5. I used the remaining kshs 600 to buy 6 packets of 2kg maize flour. The second transfer came in while both my children had been sent home for school fees. So I used it all on their school fees. That is kshs 2,500 for my son in form 2 and kshs 500 for my daughter in grade 5. I used kshs 1,500 of the third transfer to pay school fees for my son and kshs 500 for my daughter. I spent kshs 960 to buy 8 packets of 2kg maize flour and bought 1/4 kg of sugar with the remaining kshs 40. I'm so grateful because these transfers have managed to keep my two children in school and also put a meal on my table

In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Receiving the money from GiveDirectly. Receiving money every month and above all for five years is the best thing I have ever seen or heard in my life. Thank you so much. About what GiveFirectly is not doing well, there is non. I am. so appreciative of the programme and the strategy to do it.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Receiving this money from GiveDirectly came as a great surprise to me. I was struggling a lot to pay for my children school fees. Thank you so much. You came at the right time when I needed you the most. I spent the money to pay for my children school fees. I paid kes. 2500 for my son Moses, who is in secondary, form 2. And kes. 500 for my daughter who is in primary school, grade 5. I do sell coconuts and coconut oil to earn a living. I am also a farmer and so is my wife. Apart from farming, my wife also sells brooms and together we can get some small money to buy food and pay our children school fees, though with great struggle. Thank you so much GiveDirectly. You have put a smile on our faces.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I had gone to fetch water when my phone vibrated with a message. I took it out and saw that I had received the money from Give directly. I was so happy and relieved.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have money for food especially during this drought as there is no food on the farms and no jobs to earn any income. Now my family has the financial stability that would not allow them to go to bed hungry. We now have food security.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent the first half of the money that is KES.600 on paying school fees so that my children can be able to do exams without being sent home or from teacher complaining. The other half I was able to buy food for my children and myself so that we have the energy to face any challenges with a full stomach. It has been a tough couple of months without the rains as food became too expensive and we had to make do with whatever we could get. Thanks to Give directly my life will change for the better.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have always wanted to start a different kind of business from the one I have now of brewing beer. I want to start selling vegetables around the village. I will be going weekly to Kongowea in Mombasa to get stock. One of my relatives is flourishing from the same business, I admire the progress.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My family gives me joy, seeing them healthy, no disease is enough for me. The past six months have been challenging but I thank God for life.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My business currently is so down. For the past six years, my source of income has been from brewing wine. The current drought has affected my productivity and also people are not buying beer as they used to. Everyone keeps saying that the times are hard, but I have to keep working just to be able to feed my family.
