"The moment I received my transfer, I was preparing to step out to the nearby shopping centre when I heard my phone ringing and vibrating loudly, Upon checking I saw a Mpesa notification message showing that I had received money from GiveDirectly, I was overwhelmed with joy and happiness, I knew that I would be able to deposit a down payment for the posho-mill machine that I had booked earlier, I am grateful to have received the support from GiveDirectly."

"I am a tailor by profession and bought a second hand sewing machine for my daily use. I have potential customers but my sewing machine is not working well and I don't have materials to make clothes.I can make school uniforms here but I dont have capital to buy the materials. Receiving this money means i will expand my tailoring business. I will build a small tailoring shop, buy materials of KES 30, 000 and start making school uniforms both for the 2 nearby primary and the secondary. I will make money and my business will boom because there is no one in my area who has a tailoring shop."

"We are living as a poligamy family. We were 3 women married by the same man. One of us was divorced and now we are 2. We are living in a 2 bedroom house and I have 5 children. I have been thinking how I could have a spacious house which could accommodate my family but has not been easy to achieve this. Our husband is a driver and his salary cannot sustain the needs of the house currently. I used to have plenty of food from my farm but because of the drought which has persisted for two years, my farm dried up and I have nothing to harvest. All of us depends on the salary of our husband. Receiving this money means I will build another one bedroom house for my children. I will spend the first transfer to do this and the second transfer I will open a food business. I am living near a secondary school of which the students walk along distance to buy their lunch daily. If I start a food canteen just outside the gate in my land, I believe will make money because no one will be ready to go far searching for a commodity which is already available by the school gate."

"My husband, who does casual jobs in house construction, cannot afford to provide for all the needs of my family of five children. He brings home about KES 200 a day which is not enough for three meals a day besides paying school fees. We have been living a hopeless life with no one to look upon."

"I have experienced sight and right leg complications for over a decade now. This has rendered me unproductive in my small farm in the village to an extent I am forced to rely on my son to survive. I am planning to use 50,000KES to seek medical intervention in town. I believe that with the appropriate medication, my situation will get better and lead a happy life just like my neighbours. I will use a further 40,000KES to construct a two-bedroom semi-permanent house for my family. This will ensure that I earn the privacy I have always desired since I will have my own bedroom. Doing all this will make me happy."

"Receiving this money from GiveDirectly means my daughter who completed secondary school last year will fuflil her dream of studying accounting in town. She has been unable to join college because I am currently struggling financially. The wages earned by my husband in town (10,000KES a month) cannot sustain my family. I will use 40,000KES to cater for her college fees. I will use a further 50,000KES to buy two indegenous dairy cows for milk production both for domestic consumption and for sell. The sale of milk will boost my family's income at the same time educate my other children."

"I am a widow. My husband passed on ten years ago leaving three kids. Since then my life has been a struggle to feed and educate the children. What hurts me most is to see them here at home without going to school. The last two kids completed primary education and they didn't make it to join secondary education due to the hard life that I am going through. I lost hope of educating my children but for now, I can see light at the end of the tunnel. Thank you GiveDirectly for restoring my aspiration of Educating my children."
