"I am very thankful to be in this program. I will take this as an opportunity with my husband to improve our house as we have been told that this money only comes twice. We will make sure to have enough food as it is the problem that we face every season. The house too usually leaks with the grass and we shall find some local builders to help us with modifications to make it an iron-sheet-roofed house. I believe these will improve our life for the better. The remaining will go towards small items to help us daily such as household items, shoes and others."

"I plan to build a two-bedroom mud house, one room for my 3 children and the other one for myself and my husband. Each of the rooms will have a mattress and a bed. My children are Sharing a small bed at the moment, every morning they complain of back pains due to the limited space they squeeze in to be accommodated. The first transfer of 55000KES will be spent on building the house, getting beds and mattresses."

"I have always had a dream of building a brick permanent house. I started building my house eight months ago but it has stalled due to a lack of funds. The house we currently live in is small for my family of four. My younger children are forced to sleep on the floor while the other two sleeps at their grandmother's house. This makes me sad at times as a parent, as I do not get to raise my other children and I do not know about their welfare at the grandmother's place. Receiving this money, therefore, means I will realize my dream of owning a permanent house. I plan to spend KES 80,000 and the rest I buy a cow as an investment."

"Losing my husband six years ago dimmed my life. She left me with the burden of taking care of twelve children. I relied on selling milk to cater to the family's needs. Unfortunately, I sold all the cows to pay fees and other needs. Without a stable source of income, life became intolerable. Besides raising fees, have been struggling to get food. Making the matters worse, all my four daughters got impregnated out of wedlock.I took the fault since I failed to take them for further studies. Seeing the kind of life they are living makes me shed tears. For a number of years, I have been praying to see them going back to school but I have not received any support."

"I am a livestock "broker"at the nearby Chebunyo. So every Monday I go to the livestock market, I am usually contracted to sell livestock on behalf of the seller. The seller simply set his price and leave me to sell , whatever I get above the set selling price belongs to me. That is how I earn my disposable income. On a good day I get up to KES 1000. Livestock trading is a good business that I have always wanted to engage in but I lack capital. It needs a lot of capital. GiveDirectly could not have come at a better time like this, I see my dream becoming valid.I have never been happy like I am today, I intend to use the entire transfers to start the business as a livestock trader as opposed to being a broker."

"At my old age, I cannot engage myself in any meaningful economic activity that can generate income. I am frail and of poor health. It is painful to struggle to even put food on the table.I have been depending on the transfers for the elderly from the government, it is little and is dispersed after a long time. It is against this backdrop that I intend to have a sustainable source of income. Dairy farming does well in our place, I have always wanted to purchase one for my household but I have not been able due to lack of finances. With these transfers, I plan to purchase one that I will be able to milk for consumption and sell the surplus. It will cost approximately KES 30000, I will use the rest of the money to build an iron sheet roofed kitchen."

"We have been going through a myriad of problems in our family. I have been suffering from cancer of the throat and my husband is equally ill, he had sustained over 70% burn on his body. This has rendered him disabled. Life tragedies have slapped us right on our faces. Mark you we have 7 children to take care of. Although I have had significant improvement, thanks to the traditional medicine that I still use to date. It is hope against hope for us since we are economically inactive because our bodies are feeble. Receiving this money will be a great boost for us, we have always desired to own a dairy cow. The one we have belongs to a relative and can take back any time he feels like it. This may render us milk insecure since we depend on it for household consumption and sell a liter day to get KES 50 disposal income. We intend to use KES 30000 to buy dairy cows and the rest of t money to buy food."
