Rehema
received a $464 second payment.
"GiveDirectly gives us unconditional transfers so that we can spend it according to our needs. If the cash was conditional,I wouldn't have fulfilled my most immediate needs."

Kadii
received a $480 initial payment.
"I spent part of my first transfer on buying livestock more than ten goats at a total of KES 40000. This has been a wish to at least have one, but because of my poor status, this was not achievable. In addition to that, I cleared fees of KES 3000 for my three kids who are in primary schools. They have been on and off and this was because of the arrears that had accumulated for the three semesters. Later on, I bought iron sheets and a few building poles at KES 5000. These were for the construction of a special house whereby I will be keeping the goats. With the remaining amount of money, I have been buying foodstuffs for my family and other household items."

Beatrice
received a $464 second payment.
"Taking an initiative to reach out to needy community members is a practice that is more often not taken seriously. However, in my opinion, GiveDirectly does so well in reaching out to the communities that are most poor and ensures that they are enrolled in its program. As a result of this, many community members' lives including myself have greatly been improved. I have been able to accomplish what I could not do at first. However, there is nothing that GiveDirectly does not do well."

Annah
received a $464 second payment.
"I am a widow and am a mother of 7. I have worked as a firewood and charcoal vendor for the past 22 years. From this, we used to get KES 200 a day majorly for household consumption.
Before GiveDirectly, I had only one dairy cow which produced milk for household consumption and school fees as well.
On arrival of the second transfer, I saw the need for an additional cow. I, therefore, used KES 22,000 on a dairy cow, KES 10,000 on five goats. This will not only be an additional source of milk but also an income for school fees.
Additionally, I spent KES 5,000 on 16 Ironsheets in preparation to build a visitor's house. This is because I only have one house built over thirty years which can accommodate my family only
Lastly, I also spent KES 2,000 on clothing and KES 260 on a set of cups. The rest I have saved towards payment of house construction laborers."
