"RE: Givedirectly is doing amazingly well for not just me but a lot of people out here.
There are lot of good things that are happening now in my community and it's all thanks to givedirectly for this cash transfer program.
Because, before the coming of givedirectly if i don't go on traffic as a motorcyclist my family could not eat but now i can sit home without going any where and have cash just from my charging business."

Dorcus
received a $25 fourth payment.
"I am a mother of one working as a subsistence farmer while my husband is a motorcycle taxi driver. Meeting our basic needs is the biggest challenge we usually face because my husband's income that we rely on is unsustainable. In the last three months, I used a portion of my transfers to buy building materials worth KES 1400 that I intend to use to expand my house. We live in a small house that does not grant us the luxury of enjoying spacious and comfortable accommodation making us experience low self-esteem whenever we have visitors. I also bought enough food worth KES 4000 for the family which cushioned us against hunger."

"It was early in the morning while I was still sleeping and heard my phone vibrating only to check it and I saw a message from Give Directly that I have received my first transfer. At that moment I was very happy and glad that I'm now coming to get a place of my own and support my child in school."

Karisa
received a $25 sixth payment.
"The transfers have been of great help and I thank God because it would not have been easy without the support. I bought a motorcycle on credit. Unfortunately, it was recently impounded because I failed to pay the weekly KES 2500 to service the debt leaving me with no reliable source of income. I have therefore, devoted KES 2200 of the monthly transfers to purchase cornflour and KES 800 for boosting my spouse’s business. She prepares and sells chapatis and currently, this is our main source of income. The prices of food commodities have gone up and if it was not for GiveDirectly then raising my family of five would have been a challenge."

Alphan
received a $25 sixth payment.
"In addition to my three family members, I support my father to take care of my five siblings who are all in school. I repair motorcycles to earn a living but the KES 200 I make from it daily can not sustain all of our needs. There are times when I do not get a single customer which means that I take nothing home. My father is aged, and he can not do much and thus he makes little money from his construction work. To improve my income, I bought both a goat and two chickens for rearing worth KES 3200 with the hopes of benefiting from them in the future after they reproduce. KES 5800 I spent on foodstuffs that can sustain us for some period, especially with the current famine that has led to hike in the prices of most of the food commodities. I am not yet in a position to comfortably meet all of our needs but I appreciate the support and I believe that things will work out with time."

Claris
received a $441 second payment.
"I'm a tailor by profession and I own a small shop in my village. My business has been down for a while because I have been operating on very low stock and I lacked capital to bring it to capacity .I put in 30000kshs of the transfers I received into buying new materials which I intend to sell at a profit in the shop. This will improve my income greatly as compared to before. With the rest of the amount, I bought roofing sheets and pillars so as to upgrade my house from a run down shack to a decent mud thatched 4-roomed one.I am grateful to Give Directly for uplifting my business and my whole life."

Amos
received a $441 second payment.
"I used the entire amount to buy a second hand motorcycle. When I received my first transfer, I bought a saw milling machine with it. This is a business idea that had always been in my mind but I had never acquired the neccesary capital to start the business. I worked as a butcher before receiving the transfer but I worked as an employee in the said butchery. Having bought the saw milling machine, I was faced with yet another challenge of transporting it to places where work was available. I often spent a lot in transport which could end up to losses or making very little income from my new business. It is for this reason that I decided to buy a second hand motorcycle that would help me a lot in travelling around the village and other areas to do this business. I am so grateful to GiveDirectly fir making my dream a reality and I am equally very hopeful and optimistic that my business shall thrive going forward."
