Elice
received a $23 sixteenth payment.
"I plan to save my monthly income I get from Give Directly for the next four months. I intend to buy a water dispenser. We experienced drought a couple of months ago. This led to water shortage in this area and the little we would get from a nearby river wasn't clean enough. Most of the people in this village got ill as a result of drinking this water. I know the of a water dispenser that would help purify water without boiling it"

Margaret
received a $23 sixteenth payment.
"I no longer feel embarrassed whenever I have visitors after furnishing my home. I bought new chairs using the transfers I got from Give Directly. I have been saving the little I get from the casual jobs that I normally do but I don't think I would manage to buy them this soon. Previously, I would give my visitors water jerrycans to sit on and I would clearly notice they weren't comfortable sitting on them. I am glad this will never worry me again."

Kadzo
received a $544 initial payment.
"I woke up early in the morning to go fetch water as usual and on coming back as I approached the entrance of my house, I saw my child running towards me with a happy face. When they got next to me, the eldest child among them told me GiveDirectly had sent money this morning at 3:00 AM. Upon getting the news, I felt very happy and laughed as I rejoiced with my children as the assisted me to carry the bucket that I had. Surely, that was a day I will never forget."

David
received a $23 fifteenth payment.
"The drought that just ended was life-threatening. All crops that we had on our farm dried up. In fact, water had become one of the commodities which we spent money on buying it on a daily basis. Being in this situation, the money I have been receiving over the last four months helped me to meet my household daily needs. The severity of the drought was reduced because I had the cash to buy food for the family unlike during previous drought seasons. I am happy to be benefiting from GiveDirectly."

Hellen
received a $440 second payment.
"My life is better because I bought an ox which has enabled me to cultivate on time. In the past, I used to cultivate late because I had to wait untill when the owners complete to plough. Secondly, I now use my bicycle for collecting water. In the past, I had to carry the Jerrycan on my head for a long distance."

Betty
received a $440 second payment.
"My life is different in that I am now free from the debt incurred, happy to have an iron sheet roofed house which implies that I will not be burdened by problems associated with a grass thatched house like leaking during rainy season, movement to long distances has been eased by purchase of a bicycle. Before, I use to move long distances on foot, for instance, to fetch water and carry home on my head, and I had limited land to cultivate due to that debt, hence not enough food at home."

William
received a $23 sixteenth payment.
"My next goal is to buy an electric water pump which will help me pump water from a well I had dug some years ago. I plan to use this water to irrigate my farm which will guarantee me more healthy crops hence more income. I will pump some to my homestead, therefore, my family won't struggle manually getting the water from the well which is usually a very slow and tiresome process"

"I spend my morning hours collecting water from a far distance something that makes me feel so exhausted when I am back. In the afternoon, I prepare the first meal and share with my children who have come from school by then. Seeing my children enjoying their first meal makes me feel so happy and this is the happiest part of my day."
