My life is different in that I am now free from the debt incurred, happy to have an iron sheet roofed house which implies that I will not be burdened by problems associated with a grass thatched house like leaking during rainy season, movement to long distances has been eased by purchase of a bicycle. Before, I use to move long distances on foot, for instance, to fetch water and carry home on my head, and I had limited land to cultivate due to that debt, hence not enough food at home.

GiveDirectly has done well giving us money that has enabled people to build iron sheet roofed houses, resting from the burden of searching for roofing grass, and with money received, it has also enabled us to pay existing debts. There's nothing it hasn't done well in my opinion.

I spent my second transfer to build an iron sheet roofed house, pay debt, and pay hospital bill of my father -in-law who was very sick.

The biggest change in my daily life is that, I have bought materials that I'm intending to use for constructing a permanent house. This money has also enabled me get back my garden that I'm planning to plant G-nuts come rainy season. Further more, I was also able to buy a bicycle that has eased my transportation. In the past, I didn't have hope of constructing a permanent house because I lacked money to buy materials.

When I saw the message from GiveDirectly, I became very happy that truly the promise that was made to me earlier had been fulfilled. I thanked God for leading GiveDirectly to my village and to me in particular.

I spent my first transfer to purchasing 5,000 brick and a trip of sand at UGX 880,000 that I'm going to use for constructing a permanent house. I Paid off a mortgage worth UGX 350,000 that enabled me get back my garden. I also bought a bicycle at UGX 130,000 which has eased my transportation and I have saved UGX 300,000 to spend later to pay for construction labour.
