Carren
received an initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I am now more independent financially than I was before receiving payments from GiveDirectly. Having bought a dairy cow has meant that the sale of milk it produces and the cutdown on spending on things such as milk has greatly improved our living standards as a family. All along I have been reliant on subsistence farming which is largely dependent on prevailing weather conditions. My husband who works as a casual in the city largely supports us in paying school fees for our two children while I struggle to raise enough money to feed the family. I feel happy that the money that I got has been a great boost to me and my entire family."

received a $460 initial payment.
"I used KES 25000 to buy a dairy cow and used another KES 10000 to pay school fees for my child who had just been sent home for school fees. Another KES 10000 was used to buy food for the family while the remainder was used to buy clothes and other needs for my children and family. For a long time we did not own any form of livestock in our compound. This was so because the small agribusiness that I engaged in would provide us with just enough income to feed the family and maybe pay school fees albeit with some degree of struggle. I am a mother of seven children with three of them being in their secondary school level of education and paying school fees for my children have proven to be a toll order. I feel happy and lucky to have received the transfer from GiveDirectly since it enabled me accomplish things that I would have been forced to postpone until further notice. My husband too is differently abled and therefore most of the things that require money are all dependent on me."

"It was my first time receiving KES 55000 on my phone. When I confirmed that I had received such an amount, my heart was full of joy. I knew that money would help me transform my life. I work as a teacher and I was saving towards buying a dairy cow since I have been spending a lot on buying milk."

Grace
received an initial payment.
"Paying school fees for my children is the greatest joy that I have. This has never been easy since I lost my husband. But I am happy and relieved that I was able to pay the money on time with disposing of any of our properties. Secondly, I have accomplished my dream of purchasing a dairy cow within a short period. This is a big relief because I would no longer worry about where I would get money of purchasing milk daily. I am forever grateful for the support that uplifted my life tremendously."

"The moment I received my transfer, I was busy preparing supper for my family. Then suddenly I heard my phone ringing, Upon checking I realised that I had received a sum of KES 55,000 from Segovia technology. I was overwhelmed with joy and happiness because this meant that I would be able to accomplish the goals that I had of owning a dairy cow. I then informed my children who were indeed thankful and happy and finally we embarked on planning how we would utilise the money. We are indeed grateful for the support that lifted our living standard amazingly"

Surya
received a $460 initial payment.
"it was around 7 pm I was just relaxing at home after a busy day. My spouse had the phone, she came and informed me that there was a message from GiveDirectly confirming that I have received some money. When I checked it out I could not believe my eyes because I have never received such an amount of money before. We all celebrated because this was a blessing that would change our living standards. I knew I would be able to buy a dairy cow to cut the daily cost of buying milk. We aligned with my family and I went to withdraw the money the following day."

Edna
received an initial payment.
"We used KES 13000 to pay school fees for my children and used another KES 17000 to buy a dairy cow. The remaining amount was used to buy food and other basic household needs and to advance my agricultural activities. I made a choice to buy a cow since this is one of the main economic activities that we engage in here and which will empower us and make us ready to meet other expenses in the future."

"I used KES 20000 to buy a dairy cow and used the remaining amount to pay school fees Kes 10000 Kes 12000 to buy furniture and the remainder was used to buy food and other basic household needs. I made a decision to buy livestock since we did not have one and yet this is a great investment one can have. We normally rely on farming to make income which is sometimes hard to accumulate enough."
