"In my opinion GiveDirectly did very well by giving us money and opportunity to choose how to spend the money.Right now I have two dairy cows and have built my own house.this would not have happened if we were not given the freedom to choose"

"After receiving the first transfer, I spent KES 40000 on buying a dairy cow that is currently providing my family with enough milk. I also used part of the remaining amount to plant more grass, which cut the cost of buying feeds for the two cows. Milk production has increased at the moment and thus the daily income from the sales. I saved the remaining amount and have been useful in buying feeds and supplements for the livestock and also household food. At the moment, I am a teacher in a private primary school and a distance learning student in a college as well. Payment of my school fees has solely been with the salary I am earning and sometimes supporting my family of three with the remaining amount."

"I had a heifer before receiving the first transfer and spending on milk had been a norm for my family. The receipt of the second transfer presented an opportunity to change this after buying a lactating cow at KES 40000. Since then, my family of seven has been happily enjoying a plentiful supply of milk for our domestic use and surplus for sale. I spent the remaining amount on buying dry maize grains and other foodstuffs for my family of seven."

"At the moment, I have one heifer and my new goal is to buy a dairy cow so that I can have milk for use at home and for sale. The income generated from sale of milk would assist me to pay school fees for my children with less struggle. I believe that we will be able to save towards our goal through part of my spouse's daily income which he earns from car wash service."

"My new goal is to buy one dairy cow. Having built a new house, bought furniture and started a small business with the first and second transfer, what came into my mind was purchasing a dairy cow. I currently do not own one and I am forced to buy milk which is very costly. Once I am able to raise enough money through a savings plan that I have started then I will be able to buy one. This dairy cow shall definitely be a game changer in my life. I look forward towards achieving this soon enough."

"I am currently rearing a cow given to me by my neighbor which I should return soon. I do not have my own cow at the moment, therefore I spent Ksh 30000 to buy a young heifer. This, hopefully in the future, will be a source of milk for my family and sell the extra if any for an income. I also I paid in full my daughter's school fees for the year which included the arrears that I had with KSh. 10000 and I am assured that she wont be sent home for unpaid school fees anymore for the year. I spent the rest of the transfer to buy farm inputs such as maize seeds. I am so grateful for the support that Givedirectly has given us."

"I used KES 37000 to buy a dairy cow and used the remainder to complete the construction of a house we had built using the first transfer. We made a decision to buy a dairy cow since we did not own one yet it is one of the main economic activities that we do engage in here at our village. We normally rely on casual work to earn a living which gives us just enough to buy food and meet other little needs of my family. I am very happy that finally we were able to buy a dairy cow and looking forward to it providing us with the much needed support in terms of extra income."

"I used KES 30000 to buy a dairy cow and used another KES 20000 to pay school fees for my child who is doing her university education. The remaining amount was used to buy food and other basic household needs. I am personally so happy to have been part of the beneficiaries of this program since it helped me a lot in terms of getting enough cash to pay school fees for my children. They require huge school fees to be paid and had it not been for GiveDirectly, then it would have been a little hard for me. I normally rely on onion farming proceeds to make money buy the money that I get is hardly enough to make ends meet."

"I used KES 10000 to prepare our farm and plant crops in it, used another KES 10000 to fence our compound. I also used KES 22000 to buy a heifer. All these investments were an effort put to make sure that we are more independent financially as a family and even food sufficient. The dairy cow that I bought is a long term investment that was an additional livestock to those that I already have. I do motorcycle operation in the city to earn a living and I thank God because this is work that has always helped me meet the needs of my family. I however have plans of starting my own business back at home and be close to my family because for far too long, I have been away from family. I am a father of two and look forward to being united with my family once again."

"My new goal is to plant some fodder crops for livestock on my newly acquired piece of land. After having enough feeds, I will buy another cow so that I can have surplus milk for sale and that will earn me some income. I will save money through a merry-go-round savings plan so that I can achieve these goals."
