"The biggest difference in my life is that I have purchased two small heifers. Having them is an added advantage because when they shall have grown to a point of reproducing, I shall have added security to lean on during a financial crisis. Secondly, my family now has a stable fishing business after buying fishing nets with GiveDirectly's transfers from which my husband gets good income that sustain our family. Thanks to GiveDirectly."

"Receiving this money means that I will spend for buying oxen and ox-plough. Iam a fisher man and all the money I realise from it is spent on cultivation purposes instead of providing other neccessities for my family members like treatment. Once I own oxen and ox-plough, I will no longer spend money got from fishing to pay labour forexample ploughing. This means the money I realise from fishing will take care of treatment and providing other needs for my family members."

"The biggest difference in my daily life in the last four months preceding the current transfer is that I am able to provide financial support to my family without difficulty unlike before when we use to go to bed hungry. At times fishing business is tricky, you stay in the lake the whole night and you catch zero fish, due to such unavoidable circumstances our families are forced to go without food at times. Thus I thank Give Directly for having changed our lives."

"We struggle so much financially because my husband and I don't earn much income from the charcoal making and fishing economic activities that we engage in. It takes me 3 weeks to fill a sack of charcoal that is ready to sell and even so am not guaranteed of getting a buyer. My husband on the other hand, makes at most 3 dollars a day from fishing in the nearby river which he does 3 days in a week. From this, we feed, clothe, treat and even pay fees for our children's education which is certainly not enough. However, the river is almost dried up at the moment because of low rainfall thus causing more frustration. "

"We struggle so much financially and that is our major setback. I am not contributing economically as at now because am heavily pregnant and my husband's income from charcoal business and seasonal fishing is not enough to cater for our bills of food, education and decent housing. At the moment, we all sleep in a tiny one room that can only fit one bed and it has been our wish to build a bigger house but we do not have the financial muscle to do so because we prioritize other needs that is food and education."

"After losing my mother mid last year, most of the responsibilities of my family fell on me because my father is not so responsible and does not bother much about my siblings' welfare. Receiving transfers from Give Directly has made it possible for me to properly provide for my siblings' needs even during those days that I am not able to make much from my fishing job. I have managed to cater for their school needs in time and ensured that they always have decent meals, all of which I owe to these transfers because none of these would be possible through my little income."

"My new goal is to start cattle keeping where by I am planning to buy goats. This will be one of the investment that i will have in future in any case give directly program will be rolling out. It is also a good idea to have cattle because one can sell them when she or he has emergency. I am also planning to buy fishing net being that I do not have my own net, I always hire people's net which is very expensive."

"I have a plan of starting a small scale business that I can rely on and use to sustain my family far much better than what the fishmongering business has been generating. The problem with relying on the fishmongering business is that it is unreliable, for instance, currently, there are restrictions on fishing because the number of fish have reduced significantly, so for the next few months we will have to do without the business until such a time when the fishermen are allowed back into the waters."
