Lily
received a $455 second payment.
"We spent KES 23000 of our recent transfer on buying a 3000-liter water tank. We decided to buy the tank so that we can collect clean rainwater for our household use. The water that we usually go to fetch from the river which is quite far is not clean. People usually do their laundry there and the dirty laundry water usually finds its way back to the river. With the remaining transfer amount, we spent it on building another bigger house. The one that we have been living in is small and the space is not enough to accommodate us and the children. We have been meaning for a long time to build another house and buy the water tank, but we were not in a position to since we didn't have the money. We are thus so much grateful to GiveDirectly for coming up with this program of supporting us. We now have clean water for our household use and the house is big enough to accommodate all of us."

received a $471 second payment.
"I had a problem with water in my place. For the last five years, I have been looking for water about 2km away from home. Because of financial constraints, I could not buy a tank to harvest enough water during the rainy season. My new goal was to buy a 5000 L tank in order to arrest my water issues."

"I spent a portion of my first transfer on buying a water tank ( 5000) liters at KES 31000. I had been yeaning to own it for a long because there has been a prolonged drought in my region which was stressful. We could trek for almost 20 KM to search for fresh water and it was tiresome. It is now a relief to me for now becasue I will be harvesting the rainwater for my domestic use and for my plants. In addition, I cleared school fees of KES 10000 for my two children who are in secondary schools. They have finally been able to sit for the exams with their friends which feels like a miracle. Also, I boosted my business ( selling fish) in the village which I am currently operating in my village. With the remaining amount, I bought food for my eleven family members."

"As I was approaching home after fetching some water at around 7 am, I heard a message tone from my phone which rang twice. I did not bother about it because I do not cow how to read. When I settled at home I consulted my daughter-in-law to confirm the message and what it was all about. She screamed in happiness and hugged me; I wondered what could have happened. Thereafter she informed me that I had received KES 55000.00 from GiveDirectly. My heart was engulfed with happiness and we rejoiced together for getting such a huge amount of money at once."

"Give directly has offered great support to us. We are all happier and filled with so much gratitude towards the organization. I now have a water tank to help store rainwater and save me from the hustle of walking for two hours to fetch water. Other than this, I was able to buy a fridge and bought some tiles to improve my house. There is no area the organization has not done well"

"It was exactly 7 am when I was at the water station waiting to fetch water for my family's consumption. I heard the news about the transfer from my neighbors who had received the transfer that morning. Being among the people who were enrolled in the program, I had a lot of thoughts in mind that I was not lucky. Shortly, I received two consecutive messages on my phone. I was interested to know its content. Upon checking, I learned that I had received my transfer. I was extremely happy about receiving the transfer."

"The transfer has brought a big difference in my daily life. This is because I now have clean rainwater for my household consumption having bought the water tank. I hence no longer rely on my grandchildren to fetch some for me when they get home from school. Other than that, I will be able to renovate the floor of my house after all. I also managed to clear the hospital debt and hence I no longer owe anyone anything. Thank you so much GiveDirectly for the support."
