"The most noticeable difference in my daily life since receiving the first transfer has been looking at the well-built fence surrounding my compound every morning. Despite the fact that I have not yet brought in any livestock, I am hopeful that the next step will be to ensure healthy grass growth in preparation for the purchase of a dairy cow and a goat. This has also made our work easier because my compound is no longer infested by the goats of my neighbors, who roam in search of greener pastures. Furthermore, GiveDirectly has improved my family's healthy eating habits after we refilled enough food for my family of three."

"I spent $300 of the recent transfer to start livestock rearing by purchasing one cow and two goats. Being old, sick, and unable to engage in any casual labor. This will be a reliable source of income that would support my life. Previously, I was relying on charcoal burning a job that requires a lot of energy and strength to do. Furthermore, used $100 to repair my kitchen which had collapsed, and was forced to resort to cooking outside. Most of the time our food would be contaminated with sand and used more firewood to cook due to the blowing winds. I saved the remaining amount to support acquiring food because of the health problem which makes it impossible for me to work."

"The transfer will help a lot. I have a grandson who will be joining secondary school in February this year. Planning to spend $100 on his education. Since I have few livestock, I intend to buy two cows for $400. Will also add another 10 goats for $350. When I have enough livestock it means I can have enough milk. I can also sell the livestock to sustain myself. Due to the drought, I will have to buy cereals. Intend to buy 2 bags of maize for $120. In addition, will buy other household essentials costing $100 such as sugar, cooking oil and beans. This means I won't have to worry about food for over 6 months."

"When I receive this transfer, I purchase a dairy cow at USD 526 which will provide us with milk for both selling and domestic use so that we can meet some basic needs. I will also use USD 789 to re- innovate my house so that we can sleep comfortably. To also have my grand children go to school regularly and perform well, I will use USD 263 to clear for school requirements for a full year. Then the balance of USD 263 will cater for feeding and medical bills when fall sick again."

"With the transfer from the previous two months, I spent $30 for two goats. They are advantageous since, after giving birth, I will not only have more goats but also be able to sell them in the future to pay for a cow. Currently, we purchase milk, but it is pricey and rarely within our means. My family often goes a month without drinking milk. We will have adequate milk for our family's usage after purchasing a cow in the future, which will improve our nutritional situation. The remaining $38 I used on kerosene to light our lamp and food for our family. We still use lantern lamps because we cannot currently afford to buy a solar panel."

"Currently, I have a goal of starting an investment in livestock specifically goat rearing. I understand it will take quite some time because the amount I get cannot do huge things at ago but with determination and saving discipline, I will make it. As much as I would like to start with a cow, it will not be possible because the amount I receive has to be budgeted for other things such as food and school fees for my children and also the savings to be there. Due to this, buying a cow will be an outcome of the goats' investment which I plan to start with this year's transfers."

"A lot has changed in my life since we started receiving transfers from GiveDirectly. Buying a dairy cow was one great achievement that has really changed my life and that of my family. We now have enough milk supply within our household where we can even sell some to meet other emerging family needs."
